'Cis' isn't just made up; it is a hateful slur. It is meant to de-normalize normal people.
That's why Marxists like Ellison love to use it.

I will never understand all those poeple who just have this weird mortal fear of introspection, self-discovery and examining what it means to be “normal”.
PS:
Also, learn some really basic Latin, you ignoramus, because “cis” means on this side, basically explicitly labelling a match between sex and gender as normal. And no, no one but perhaps the very looniest on the left fringe denies that cisgender is “normal” in the sense of being the usual and by far most common - what is rejected is the notion that anything other than the normal state does not exist and/or and unnatural abomination.
Dude, I am a proud cisgendered heterosexual/gynophilic male, you don’t see me acting like those (accurate) terms that I use to descibe myself as a “normal” person are toxic slurs…
Besides “normal” just means what the majority is. Being in the minority (aka “abnormal”) does not by definition make you an abomination of nature.
“'Cis' isn't just made up;”
ALL words are just made up.
“it is a hateful slur.”
I remember learning about cislunar travel when I was a kid. Everything this side of the moon.
LANGUAGE IS OLDER THAN THE CHIP ON YOUR SHOULDER.
“It is meant to de-normalize normal people.”
Normal people look up definitions, not assign them willy-nilly.
“That's why Marxists like Ellison love to use it.”
Could you define ‘Marxist’ the same way twice in a row?

Does he have a Hobbes?
One of the problems of trying to claim “normal” to mean “cishet” is that the word is very context-dependent, without any clear context it becomes a question of “normal in which sense?” Which can be an issue where precise language is needed, as it requires either repeatedly establishing the context or using awkward constructions. (Also potential self-othering problems with ingroup conversations, but they wouldn’t care about that.) And there’s also the issue that “normal” can imply “boring” or “mediocre” which I’m not sure the gender normalist types would care for.
It’s not completely impossible that “normal” could someday specifically mean cishet, but that’s probably going to take a few generations at least, and I suspect that it will make modern English media a bit confusing.
But really, all this is being generous and assuming the OP isn’t suffering from a case of “equality feels like oppression”.
It is meant to de-normalize normal people
You aren’t normal, OP.
Confused?
