The “left” would not impose a state religion, surely. That’s what YOU want to do, Marsie. The “left” want to keep with the religious freedoms of the Founding Fathers.

No, you don’t live in a Communist country, and neither do the Chinese, really. It’s much too capitalist nowadays to be called Communist. Authoritarian, yes, Communist, no.

The “left” that you’re talking about is only “left” because you only have two right-wing parties. In many other countries, your liberals would be very much right-wing indeed, and the conservatives are even more right-wing.

Most people in America are Christian, on both “left” and “right”. As the rightist ideology of “Prosperity Gospel” has nothing to do with Christ (who was all about SELL YOUR POSSESSIONS AND GIVE THE MONEY TO THE POOR!), they can’t be Christian.

The left in America see what China is doing and condemn it. We don't want religion pushed on people but we don't want it gone ether. Well most of us don't.

I do want religion gone, but banning it would require the government to track down the churches (which would quickly abandon the specialized buildings and switch to operating out of people’s homes like the OG Christian church did back when it was a mystery cult), to decide what exactly counts as a religion (non-theistic Buddhism? Confucianism? ironic religions like the Church of the Subgenius? cults of personality like the reality distortion field of the late Steve Jobs? cult-like non-theistic organizations like Objectivism?), and would require dealing with all the people who’ve been religious all their lives don’t want — or know how — to get by without it.

It’s the same reason modern-day teetotalers don’t support prohibiting alcohol. Even if you think it’s a bad thing, the process of enforcing a ban would require severe human rights violations. The cure is worse than the disease.

You personally may not, but you can hardly deny that Christians used state power to enforce belief, or at least conformity, from the moment they took functional control of the Roman Empire. Right up through "blue laws" still on the books in America.

Control what you can say - Blasphemy laws.
Control what you can read - Book burnings.
Control what you can drive - Depending where you are you could be forbidden from driving entirely if you’re a woman, gay, or the vehicle is not specifically farm equipment.
Control what you can eat - Religious dietary restrictions are common. And in outright theocracies they’re enforced.
Control what you drink - Most religions discourage alcohol, others forbid it.
Control your healthcare - Catholic hospitals excommunicate staff for even discussing some treatments. Abortion, transition surgery, any form of birth control, in some cases they’ll even hamper referrals to other services like mental health.
Control your guns - Well there’s no direct reversal on that front. Religion is funny in how it speaks against violence but religious governance always has a standing army of the faithful kept constantly itching for a fight. Heaven forbid anyone impede your ability to break the sixth commandment as efficiently as possible. Though beyond the involvement of religion right wingers tend to have very different opinions on whether you have a right to bear arms depending on the colour of your skin. In those cases if it is even suspected that a gun is on your person then it’s a death sentence, and always justified to assume there’s a gun and intent to use it. Or that bare hands and raised arms could be as dangerous as a gun. You get the idea.
Control your news - Who is it right now trying to completely delegitimize all media worldwide as “fake news” apart from Fox News, conspiracy factories like Breitbart, and white supremacist publications? (With a bit of overlap here and there.)

Yeah, even without getting into the specifics of how you’re misrepresenting the truth the pot is calling the kettle black.

How would you feel about a statue erected to glorify Benedict Arnold? The Confederacy attacked what is now America and were traitors to the Union. So you’re glorifying traitors. Robert E. Lee specifically objected to the idea of being memorialized and hoped to let the conflict and the scars of war fade from memory and the vast majority of the monuments were erected during the civil rights movement as a very pointed middle finger and a reminder that America was willing to do worse than treat them like second class citizens. As for history? Whenever context is given of exactly what those men did and what they stood for it’s sanitized in a hurry (or in the case of the assholes who insist on calling it “the war of Northern Aggression” replaced with pure fiction) and the narrative is spun that even if it’s true drawing attention to the negatives of American history is “anti-white” and undermining American values. Which implies that America hasn’t actually moved on from those days after all.

It's a nasty problem here in America, but there are many of us Christian's who still want to keep church and state separate. It's a shame we cant seem to be heard over evangelicals though.

You have my sympathies. I often wonder what it must take to drown out the very loud and frankly obnoxious fundamentalist voices in Christianity.
