Senator Tom Woods #psycho #enbyphobia #wingnut friendlyatheist.com

Earlier this month, Nex Benedict, a 16-year-old non-binary student from Oklahoma, died one day after being assaulted in an Owasso High School bathroom. (The details are still unclear.)

The issue came up on Friday night during a “Legislative Update” featuring several lawmakers and sponsored by the Tahlequah Area Chamber of Commerce. An audience member, Cathy Cott, asked the four Republican members of the legislature why they had “such an obsession with the LGBTQ citizens of Oklahoma and what people do in their personal lives and how they raise their children.”

As reported by the Tahlequah Daily Press, State Sen. Tom Woods offered the worst possible response:

“… Woods said that while his “heart goes out” regarding the teen’s death, he represents a constituency.

“We are a Republican state—supermajority—in the House and Senate. I represent a constituency that doesn’t want that filth in Oklahoma,” Woods said.

“We are a religious state and we are going to fight it to keep that filth out of the state of Oklahoma because we are a Christian state—we are a moral state,” Woods said. “We want to lower taxes and let people be able to live and work and go to the faith they choose. We are a Republican state and I’m going to vote my district, and I’m going to vote my values, and we don’t want that in the state of Oklahoma.”

Distributing Christian Flyers and the style of flyers themselves may be offensive, but the core of Christianity itself goes against offence. The whole purpose of Christianity to tell people not to offend each other.

On the other hand, putting up posters about atheism or distributing flyers about atheism, or the style of the flyers themselves may not be offensive, but the core premise of Atheism itself is to offend theists. (The semantic argument of whether Atheism is merely a lack of a religion is irrelevant here.)

Christianity – and any other positive religion or moral philosophy – seeks to unite; Atheism seeks to divide.

The Jewish community certainly was undeserving of their punishment by the Nazi’s, but their role as a catalyst for the Nazi hatred of them could not possibly be created if the Jewish community was the lovable doctors and children often depicted in Hollywood cinema.

I don’t pretend to know much about the events leading up to WW2, but I cannot believe the Jewish community was an innocent bystander while Eastern Germany was the scapegoat of WW1. They were certainly victims, but not innocent. They just got way way more than they deserved.

That it has been the best-selling book for 2,000 years and subjected to far more intense scrutiny than any other book and has come out without a scratch suggests that trusting it isn’t baseless. I don’t believe it’s arrogant to think that the Bible is right and other holy books aren’t. There is probably some truth in them, indeed, but wrong is wrong and arrogance has nothing to do with it.

When we just saw that man, I think it was Mr. [PZ] Myers, talking about how great scientists were, I was thinking to myself the last time any of my relatives saw scientists telling them what to do they were telling them to go to the showers to get gassed.

We believe in talking birds (African Grey Parrot). Why is a talking snake such a stretch? We have evidence of an animal that speaks today, yet no one can prove that snakes have never spoken. It all seems so silly. If atheist want to label faith as fantasy, perhaps they should pick better examples.

There is NO SUCH THING as an atheist. If you make an absolute statement that there is NO God, then you make the affirmation that you know all things and that you can actually prove this. This is like somebody making a statement that there is no gold in China. You would have to be everywhere at one time and know what is under every rock and in every area of the land, in every man’s home, inside of each person mouth etc. It would not be proveable! [sic] Don’t try to argue that you say there is no God because you cannot prove there is! You cannot make an absolute statement and try to rationalize it by using the negative argument. It does not hold up. At least admit that YOU DON’T KNOW and take your first step toward agnosticism. Only then will you become more rational and realize that having faith is something we all exhibit whether it be in God or anything else.

Atheism is something that is encouraged in our society. We basically live in a Godless society- and you can go to communist countries and thats the majority that rules are Atheists. Atheists also aren’t beaten and tortured for their beliefs in places like China- its the Christians who are murdered and beaten and slain and left to die in the streets. No atheist has ever been robbed of their right to not believe in God.

Its the Christians who are up against all odds. In Hollywood, you have much better luck if you proclaim yourself an Atheist- or even a Scientologist, than you do if you are Christian. Some Christians have been fired from jobs in Hollywood for their beliefs.

You make it seem like Atheism is a social taboo. Its actually the mainstream in the world in which we live today.

Christians claim that Jesus will come again, at the end of human history. Two developments in physics suggest that human history will end in about fifty years: computer experts predict that computers will exceed human intelligence within fifty years, and the de-materialization mechanism can be used to make weapons that are to atomic bombs as atomic bombs are to spitballs. Such weapons and super-human computers would make human survival unlikely, and in his discussion of the Second Coming, Jesus said he would return when human would face a "Great Tribulation" of such magnitude that we would not survive without his direct intervention. We will face such a Great Tribulation within fifty years.
