The sad thing is that “based” was another thing these goofuses decided to steal from “normies” to make their own. It was originally some black / hip hop slang for being… if I may use other slang from other periods… “totally awesome” or “one righteous dude”.
Then these clowns turned it into some Mighty-Whitey-friendy far-right stupidity involving being “Not like those normie cucks who are full of soy and believe in stuff like… *yuck*… human rights…”
It’s tragic that hating the Roma is a big thing in Europe.
It turns out that “Gypsy” is actually an ethnic slur and even Joel Hodgson of MST3K recognizes this, now; His lovable female bot, “Gypsy” has recently been retconned as “CPC” (thus one can still pronounce it the old way without thinking of the slur too much, thus smoothing things out between old material and new).
As for Roma and related ethnicities and subcultures (like ‘Irish Travelers’ who aren’t actually Roma but traditionally have lived a similar, Bedouin-like lifestyle) and criminality, it’s a matter of “self-fulfilling prophecy”; If you’re constantly denying a social group any respect, human rights and / or job prospects, don’t be surprised if, out of desperation, they do shady stuff to survive.
It’s like the whole medieval-era “Jews can only do banking and give out loans with interest. / Look at these evil greedy bankers giving out loans with interest! Lets create stupid fantasies on how they’re a cabal of vampire wizard bankers so we can have someone to blame when we screw up the economy!”. This also is the case with the plethora of Jews in the entertainment biz.
A good chunk of Roma don’t even live that way, anyway, many have permanent homes and aren’t conning people for money.
Give an ethnic group full respect and equality and the criminality they’re often associated with will evaporate! Look at how it went with Italians, Irish, Poles in the USA! They used to be seen the same way as the Latinx and Blacks of today but now… many of them are among today’s bigoted Mighty Whitey moral panickers! Bill O’Reilly comes to mind. Until recently he was a big name in wingnuttery and typical jerkass old white guy… but over a century earlier, he’d be treated like the Latinx immigrants he and his ilk railed against.
End bigotry and you end the professed reasons for the bigotry!
