The reason [the n-word] persists and is so terrible is because black Americans use the word constantly and it’s not a bad word among them. However it is absolutely for forbidden for any non black personal to say the word this giving it immense power and offense when actually spoken. It would have died out decades ago if black people would let the word die by not using it.

For people who are totally not racist at all, they sure seem to be rather upset and envious about not being allowed to use that slur, aren’t they?

The slur isn’t so terrible. As you say, there are uses for it.
It’s not one of Carlin’s 7 words you can never say on television.
The thing is, there’s just no reason for a white person to use the word unless they’re TRYING to be terribly offensive. And THAT is what gets the emotional resposne.
You’re going to get up ans ave a flag saying, “I’m Racist!”
And then get all butthuer that THEY can use the word, but if you use it, you’re considered a ‘racist.’ And treated that way.

I dunno. I really don’t think IT has that much power, but the perception among whites is what makes them use it, and the perception of thsoe whites is what’s getting people upset.

It’s kinda cute, my son was at work singing along to a rap song. Used the n word in the lyrics. Someone told him that was dangerous. So he sang a different song. Similar lyrics. They said he ahd two strikes against him. He thought for a second. “You know I’m black, right?” He’s light-skinned, but two states insist that my kids were black when born. His coworkers were all apologetic for misunderstanding his use of the word.

They use the word to reclaim what was a terrible slur against them, from the days of slavery. I understand that, which is why I used to like NWA.

So what? I've never used that word and I doubt I ever will. Hasn't hurt me a bit.

If I call someone a “cracker”, it will be considered impolite, but not racist, because my lily-white ass can hardly be suspected of being anti-white. Now use the same reasoning for the word “nigga” and see which demographic could use it without suspicion of it being a slur against the other person.
