And totally not as a direct result of Japan’s horrific atrocities and wars of expansion, most notably in China, and totally the US egging Japan on to attack them to give them justification for war.
But because Tatsuya is all in on hating the Jews no matter what, he HAS to paint the Axis as being victims no matter what as well, and that includes outright ignoring all the reasons why the US ended up not trading oil with Japan anymore (IE Imperial Japan’s own hyperaggression and horrific warcrimes) and shift the blame not Japan going to war with the US but the US somehow being at fault for Japan attacking them.
Tats has mostly been ignoring the Eastern Theater, but his occasional attempts to touch on it are very schizo.
You’ve got the ‘Gu, who are Jewish Tengu, who are driving Japan’s (completely fictional) war on Germany on the side of the Allies. Then you’ve got the Spirit of Japan, represented by a Samurai Statue, who is being provoked into attacking the United States, which is one of the Allies, by the puppets of the “Western Jews” (including Roosevelt), because… um… nobody knows? Tats is trying to tell a very unhistorical story, but is also including some historical events which directly contradict that story, resulting in an incoherent mess.

Not quite so… Tats’ take on the Eastern Theatre is actually “Japan heard Nazi Germany’s message of peace and sovereignity. This deprived the Tengu, who are Jewish, of children to sexually abuse. In response, the Western Jews and the Tengu provoked a war with the USA.”
There’s been not a word about Japan invading China (and many other countries). Roosevelt does say once “Protect the cuddly Chinese dragon” but that’s it.

Whether as a literal war or in a more abstract sense was never clear, but there was definite opposition. It’s certainly plausible that the “real Japan” is waking up thanks to Hitler’s message, and this strip is the beginning of a convoluted plot to punish “real Japan” for waking up so the ‘Gu can try to take over again (and said plot will eventually end with a certain pair of bombs)… but Tats sometimes manages to surprise you with something even weirder than you expected, so I wouldn’t entirely count on something like that being his intent. At time of writing, he’s too busy getting mad at Reddit and trying to shoehorn *that* into his alt-universe WWII setting in between the strips about Veles (Slavic God of the underworld) to get back to the mostly-neglected Pacific Theater, and I currently have even less clue where he’s going with those.

Of course , that’s the type of story “structure” this has. Of. Course. I assume, though, that at least this one does not feature a blatant self-insert collecting a creepy harem. (…right?)

Thankfully, no. His views on women have evolved over time and have always been at least a little problematic, but none of his self-inserts have ever gone there. The closest he’s ever gotten was Sleaze (Slick’s evil doppelgänger), who was probably not a full self-insert but a symbol of his personal guilt over porn consumption, and that wasn’t very close. His current self-insert appears to be a nameless German soldier who witnesses “Jewish” atrocities but does little more than make inane comments about them.
