Modern and Postmodern crap has tree tasks: blasphemy, defamation of our ancestors, and to teach the youth to hate the lovely and love the hateful. The means used are ugliness, vulgarity, and “cancel culture” levels of humorlessness.

It is anti-storytelling.

In my humble (a term alien to you) opinion, John C. Wrong, fiction stories (wether books, comics, games, movies, shows, manga, etc.) only have ONE primary purpose, to entertain. And I don’t know about you, but entertainment, like any other ART form, is HIGHLY subjective by its very nature. Sure, art can also be used to spread information or messages, or make people contemplate things, but entertainment is still THE primary purpose.

So, sure, I respect that you may dislike the Odyssey or Watchmen or TLJ and like Left Behind or God’s not Dead or such stuff. Even if I strongly disagree with your tastes and reasoning. But in exchange, do respect that people like me have other preferences. I have liked things the majority dislikes, and I have disliked things the majority likes; but I still don’t pretend like my tastes are superior to everyone else…

“Good art is a distraction. Great art changes people.”

And believe it or not, that quote really resonates with me. Some stories really have made me think about the world or morality or even myself.

The first being originally a story in poem form which was created before your ‘God’ was. The latter scenario set in a galaxy far, far away which has no concept of a ‘God’. And that by a comics writer for “2000 AD” who came up with the concept of the deconstruction of superheroes before even His Excelsior!ness Stan Lee did with “Lucky Man”, least of all what “The Boys” has done of late. Moore came up with a scenario - so distinctively visualised by Ian Gibson - that even other comic writers/artists consider to be perfect: “The Ballad of Halo Jones”.

Very few stories have ever done this. Even most Christians are going to look askance at this one.

Stories which do this tend to exaggerate and whitewash, eschew historical accuracy, and reinterpret them according to the cultural and moral norms of the current day.

That is a rather archaic use of the word “lovely”, the modern version is either “loving” or “lovable” depending on exactly what you meant. Given the sometimes valid phrase “no hate quite like Christian love” I suspect your standards for “hateful/lovely” may deviate significantly from the mainstream.

Also, stories exist to teach lessons, to explore situations outside the ordinary, to help the creator work through difficult issues (and often, to help others to either understand those issues better or work through it themselves), to present alternative perspectives, or even occasionally random flights of whimsy with no real purpose beyond maybe entertainment. Not sure if you’d count any of those things under your odd definition of “postmodern”.

I was almost gonna say the exact same thing until I read your post. You nailed it. Also another purpose could be to convey a particular message, but that could be absolutely ANY kind of message. Whether it’s “yay God” or “war sucks” or…whatever. I mean, I read “harem-lit” books and stuff, so I don’t know what the message behind those would be, if any. Maybe “be an awesome cool guy and you’ll attract girls?” lol
