Religion is an ideology, and deserves no free pass from scrutiny or criticism than any other ideology. None of us need coddle or cowtow to absurd assertions, including the faith-based fantasies and bigotries of Christianity, Islam, B'hai, Judaism, Santeria, voodoo, etc.

Or the faith-based fantasies and bigotries of science. Eugenics anyone? Misogyny in silicon valley? IQ testing designed to make sure African-Americans looked stupid?

Science has its flaws but (in theory) is self correcting. That said human cognitive bias may be the most powerful force in the universe.

Science works, which makes it a damn better sight than the cockamamie bullshit religions try to pass off as “truth”.

Science had its' limits but religion does as well. It's a tool and has its' time and place for when to use it.

And hey, believe it or not, all have been questioned. The forces that took eugenics and IQ testing in awful directions and way too far, frankly, wasn’t science, but people’s own religious and sociological views imposed on the science. People who, at that time, had a great deal of authority, and wielded it to do everything they could to assure they kept that authority. This is why science itself is always questionable, even unquestionable facts.

Also because several times when the scientific community has accepted something as established fact, young students and barely post-students have come along and actually found the answers to questions that most never even dug into, or dug into with little return. They either greatly expanded on what was known, or turned what was known on its head. More often the first, believe it or not, unless they were questioning religion more than science.

So at the very least, please get straight what’s actually going on before you excoriate everyone you were taught to disagree with.

Oh, man, I don’t know how I missed this diary, but it’s a gold mine. Not only could it be up here itself (it starts off fine, but delves into “Christians are the majority, so we DESERVE to be pandered to” bullshit), but there’s a handful of idiots there trying to argue from absolute insanity, and I agree nonlinear’s the best one. He doesn’t even seem to realize he’s using fundamentalist arguments…
