I think that they’re running off of the idea that being aware of danger (or at least what they perceive as danger) makes people more vulnerable to it, somehow. Like being aware of sex makes you more vulnerable to being raped; being aware of LGBQ people makes you more likely to be seduced by those people and then “turned”, like they were vampires or something; being aware of T people makes you more likely to be peer-pressured into depression and self-mutilation; being aware of LGA people makes you more likely to abandon your sacred breeding duties; being aware of “wrong” religions might cause someone to convert to another religion or abandon religion altogether. Even some of the “Jesus is my copilot” types seem to believe that so long as they stay ignorant of the likely consequences of their actions, God will rescue them from any predicaments that they blunder into. This is despite that Jesus specifically told his followers not to be like that. Though if they weren’t mostly ignorant of the bible, they might be in danger of knowing this…
