Am I the only one who noticed that all the parts of the bill she discussed are actually things that schools already do?
School boards already do work with parents to develop curricula, both academic and otherwise, that the parents can at least mostly get behind. That’s a pretty important part of how schools work. Now they just want to dictate for themselves not only every detail of their child will learn, but everyone else’s as well. If they really just wanted complete control over their own children, they’d home school. This is conservatives taking advantage of an opportunity to completely control other people’s children too … exactly what they claim liberals are doing.
Keep schools from prohibiting access certain records? If the school has any records involving your child, and your custody is uncontested, they already cannot prohibit your access to those records. None of these parents ever seem to want to get involved unless they find out their child is perfectly aligned with exactly what they expect.
And if these very same parents wouldn’t scream like holy hell every time one of their children isn’t completely conformed to their ideal, their children wouldn’t be scared to let them know what they’re feeling and thinking.
