I fully agree on that. When I’m in a depressed mood I actually prefer to play not emotional games, but rather dumb fun games like fighting games or Doom or Ratchet & Clank or even Skyrim. Or even some survival horror so I can shoot back at the things that scare me.

Tbh, on some small level I can understand it. None of us asked to be born after all. But instead of angsting about it and putting the entire world out of our misery, we should probably try to improve the world for future generations to be born into.

Also, I haven’t played Clair Obscur yet, though I’ve heard a lot of good things about it. Maybe I should save some money for it. But yeah, I also know of some games that made me emotional. GoW Ragnarok, for one. Also the entire “Dread Wolf” story from Dragon Age Inquisition and Veilguard. Hell, the ending of Digimon Hacker’s Memory even made me tear up a bit.

You don’t actually accomplish anything IRL, but the feeling of accomplishment by beating a difficult boss fight or completing a lenghty side quest or obtaining that rare treasure still gives your brain that same feeling of satisfaction as if you’ve done something important IRL. And that’s what matters. That’s what causes them to make life more bearable. It may not be real to others, but the feeling is still real to YOU.
