“I am expressing my feeling towards the very Idea of Atheism.”
Ooooh, the concept of not believing in any gods?
As opposed to, say, believing in ONE god and not believing in the other 5000 of them?
“I almost pity those who have such beliefs.”
The lack of beliefs?
“I'm not saying they are wrong or right.”
You just pity them for an opinion…
“I'm just saying that what they believe in is more depressing than any other possibility.”
Ah. See, I don’t find it depressing to believe in electricity. it’s just how the world works. And even the time i grabbed a 60-Amp fuse and woke up in the next room, it wasn’t depressing.
The only thing ‘depressing’ about atheism is that YOU think you’d be depressed if you didn’t believe in your skybuddy.
“So I made this simple picture to express my feelings for somebody who believes in nothing.”
I don’t believe in ‘nothing.’ I just don’t believe in any gods.
Like (i assume) you don’t believe in Zeus, Apollo, Aphrodite, Jupiter, Odin, Thor, Freya, Quetzacoatl, and on and on and on. I just go one further.
“here we see a person sitting in a blank room without any doors or windows.”
So nothing to distract me from my own thoughts. Got it.
“What is most troubling is the fact that this person wants to be here, and is unwilling to move from his chair.”
If there’s no door, what would be the point of moving?
And, really, I did not CHOOSE to be in this room. I just came to a realization one day that I’d lost any faith in the god i was searching for.
“Alone,”
Near as i can tell, we’re ALL in that room, just some of you draw faces on the walls….
“neglected,”
We can’t be ‘neglected’ by gods if there aren’t any gods TO neglect us…
“and lost to the ravages of time.”
Ravage? I haven’t really been ravaged since early in our courtship.
“without anything to grab onto and hold as a symbol of his own identity.”
But I’m in the room, right?
Why would I need a symbol of my identity, I have ME.
“Those who seek nothing as a reward shall ultimately receive it.”
Wow. That’s pretty meaningless.
I don’t SEEK atheism, it’s just how I ended up when all arguments for any theism fail to serve.
“I don't think Atheists can even believe in love, which is the saddest part.”
How the fuck would you come to that conclusion?
I need to believe in that mass murderer you worship to know live?
That’s stupid.
But, hey, I’ve been married for 40 years, raised three kids, have a granddaughter… plenty of experience with love, no matter what you think.
