Sandy Rios, a Fox News contributor and American Family Association radio talk show host today on her AFR radio show compared the love two gay men feel for each other to the “love” kidnapper, rapist, and murderer Ariel Castro felt for the women he kept captive as slaves in his home.

Rios was speaking with Chicago pastor Erwin Lutzer, who insisted that pedophiles also “love” the children they rape.

Lutzer also claimed that same-sex marriage leads to the destruction of the family and “confusion” for children.

Dr. James Dobson #fundie thenewcivilrightsmovement.com

In yet another example of how the religious right has been spreading hate, ignorance, and lies about the LGBT community, one of their top leaders reveals he doesn't even know what being bisexual is.

It's not unreasonable to expect a psychologist who has made a good portion of his living "educating" people about homosexuality and bisexuality to actually know what the term bisexual means.

And yet, here's audio of Dr. James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family and the Family Research Council, saying that bisexuality is "orgies."

On Friday, in a radio interview with Mat Staver, Rick Scarborough, and Tim Wildmon – three religious right anti-gay activists – Dobson takes issue with pastors "who are compassionate toward those who have attractions to same-sex individuals."

"I would like them to think, just for a moment, about 'LGBT,'" Dobson says. "The 'B' stand for bisexual! That's orgies! Are you really going to support this?"

Of course, people who are bisexual are attracted to people who are male and to people who are female. Bisexuality has nothing to do with the type or degree of monogamous or non-monogamous relationships one prefers.

One would expect a man who literally has spent four decades waging war against LGBT people to actually know what the B stands for.

Just last week, Dr. Dobson warned if marriage equality becomes the law nationwide, the U.S. will devolve into a civil war.

Texas GOP Welcomes Gay Group – Because They Aren't 'Advocating' For Gay Rights

The rabidly anti-gay Republican Party of Texas is fine with "homosexuals" having a booth at its state convention this year — as long as they keep quiet about being denied their civil rights.

For the first time in its history, the Texas GOP voted to allow a booth sponsored by an LGBT group — Metroplex Republicans of Dallas — at the convention in May. But the party also denied a booth request from another LGBT group, Log Cabin Republicans, which has unsuccessfully sought to be formally included in the convention for 20 years.

A Texas GOP official who serves on the committee that considers booth applications said Metroplex Republicans was approved because the group doesn't openly advocate for LGBT rights, despite the fact that it was founded by gay former Log Cabin members.

"I don’t find that anywhere in their literature or their website,” State Republican Executive Committee member Jean McIver told me for a story in The Texas Observer. “I’ve gone to Metroplex meetings in the past a couple of times. I didn’t find that they were advocating for anything contrary to the principles of the party.”

Jeff Davis, president of Log Cabin Republicans of Texas, said he feels the party is splitting hairs and trying to have it both ways by allowing the Metroplex Republicans booth but denying his group's application. Two years ago, both groups were denied.

“I think the party wants to be able to point to Metroplex and say, ‘See, we let gays in,'" Davis said. "It seems like to get a booth, you can believe anything you want. You just can’t say it.”

Mike Huckabee #fundie thenewcivilrightsmovement.com

“Because we were bringing Bibles to school people weren’t bringing guns to school, except for the deer hunters who left them in their trucks,” Huckabee told the audience at the 2015 Morris Cerullo World Conference.

"What has happened to our culture?" Huckabee asked. "What’s happened is we have lost our landmarks. When we reject the Bible as the objective word of truth, when we say that the Bible is no longer the standard by which we live and we make it whatever we feel, what we think, what we believe, then we have no landmark at all because that landmark is always being moved to accommodate our lifestyle rather than make our lifestyle accommodate the word of the living God and the power of the Holy Spirit."

North Carolina GOP #fundie thenewcivilrightsmovement.com

22 months after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled same-sex couples have a constitutional right to marry, North Carolina Republican lawmakers have filed a bill nullifying all marriages between people of the same-sex. The bill, which is unconstitutional, falsely invokes the 10th Amendment and claims the Supreme Court has no jurisdiction over marriage. It also falsely claims the Supreme Court has no jurisdiction over the Christian Bible.

The "Uphold Historical Marriage Act," known as HB780, says, "the ruling of the United States Supreme Court not only exceeds the authority of the Court relative to the State of North Carolina and a vote of the People of the State on an issue pertaining solely to the State of North Carolina and the People of North Carolina but also exceeds the authority of the Court relative to the decree of Almighty God."

It then quotes Genesis 2:24, "a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh."

HB780 "declares that the Obergefell v. Hodges decision of the United States Supreme Court of 2015 is null and void in the State of North Carolina." It also declares that marriages "whether created by common law, contracted, or performed outside of North Carolina, between individuals of the same gender are not valid in North Carolina."

The bill's primary sponsors are (photos, in order, above,) Rep. Larry Pittman, Rep. Michael Speciale, and Rep. Carl Ford.

Were the bill ever to become law, it would be declared unconstitutional, and the taxpayers in the State of North Carolina would have to pay court and attorneys fees, which easily could reach more than a million dollars.

Mark Pody #fundie thenewcivilrightsmovement.com

Tennessee Republican state Representative Mark Pody's signature bill, the Natural Marriage Defense Act, has been green-lighted for a vote by the House Civil Justice Subcommittee next week.

The bill would declare all marriages of same-sex couples "void and unenforceable in Tennessee."

It would also declare any "court decision purporting to strike down natural marriage," including the historic Obergefell v. Hodges decision that found same-sex couples have a constitutional right to marriage, "unauthoritative, void, and of no effect."

Rep. Pody, who has been fighting to pass his bill since last year, in December told supporters, "I believe God talks to me in prayer," and added that God told him to file the bill.

A state-required fiscal impact report finds the legislation, should it become law, would cost the taxpayers of Tennessee $8.5 billion annually. Those costs do not appear to include court and legal costs. The majority of the costs would come as the withdrawal of federal funding of Tennessee's Obamacare program, food stamps (SNAP), and welfare payments (TANF).

Robert Jeffries #fundie thenewcivilrightsmovement.com

Fox News contributor and megachurch paster Dr. Robert Jeffress says the NFL players who are protesting racial injustice and police killings of Black people should be "thanking God" they don't get "shot in the head" for doing so.

“I think what these players are doing is absolutely wrong,” Jeffress said, as ThinkProgress reports. “These players ought to be thanking God that they live in a country where they’re not only free to earn millions of dollars every year, but they’re also free from the worry of being shot in the head for taking a knee like they would be if they were in North Korea.”

Jeffress, who is a far right wing extremist who serves on President Trump's evangelical advisory board and frequently defends the president, clearly does not grasp the issue.

The players, the majority of whom are Black, are protesting racial oppression and police killings of Black people. That they are "free to earn millions of dollars every year" has nothing to do with it.

"President Trump is not a racist," Jeffress insists, all indications to the contrary. "For President Trump this is not about race, it's about respect of country."

But if President Trump respected the country, he would respect the Constitution, and would support players' silent protests, not call for their firing.

ThinkProgress notes Jeffress never called President Barack Obama a "bum," as LeBron James did to Presidnet Trump, but Jeffress "once wrote that Obama’s support for same-sex marriage was 'paving the way for the future reign of the Antichrist.'"

Pastor Ted Sessoms #fundie thenewcivilrightsmovement.com

(From a letter that was posted in the Alabama Baptist)

At the risk of being an outcast or considered a narrow-minded bigot, I must express my disagreement and disappointment with out Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) leaders in regards to the Syrian refugee crisis. I am against allowing the refugees the rights to America’s soil and my neighborhood. These are the same people that hate America, hate Christians and have vowed to take over the world by destroying our way of life. Perhaps our leaders should study the Old Testament when God gave specific instructions to destroy these people (even their women, children and animals). Why would He give such instructions? Because He knew the impact these idol worshippers of false gods would have on His people. It is not a matter of loving your neighbor. My neighbors are the people that value the same standards of life and way of life that I value.

We owe it to our children and grandchildren to make good decisions for their future in America. And opening up our country to ten of thousands of refugees with their unknown background but known hatred for Christianity and America will destroy any future our children may have.

These are the same people that are willing to give their lives to carry out their commitment to Allah. They don’t have to be considered terrorists to hate Christians. Their religious conviction cause them that hatred.

What we will see is not more SBC churches being established but more mosques. What we will see is their way and their customs being forced on us to either observe or make way for us to give up our rights to observe their rights. They are victims of a more powerful force of Muslims within their own country but they are not victims when it comes to their lifelong hatred of us and our belief in Christ. It makes no sense to say to them, “I know you hate us and I know you want to destroy our country and way of life, and I know you will eventually find a way to kill us, but come on it anyways and live among us until you gain the strength and power to overcome us.” Has the SBC been turned over to a reprobate mind?

Donald Trump #fundie thenewcivilrightsmovement.com

President Donald Trump has just announced a total ban on transgender service members in the U.S. military. Via Twitter, the Commander-in-Chief, with absolutely no warning, said:

"After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military. Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail. Thank you."

Estimates vary, but there are up to about 10,000 transgender people honorably serving in the U.S. military, as NCRM reported earlier this month. A policy accommodating new trans service members was scheduled to go into effect July 1, but at the last minute, Secretary of Defense James Mattis postponed the change for another six months.

"We will use this additional time to evaluate more carefully the impact of such accessions on readiness and lethality," Mattis wrote, announcing the delay. He added, "this action in no way presupposes the outcome of the review."

If Trump's tweets are to be taken verbatim, the military would in theory discharge about 10,000 Americans. Expect legal challenges to the new policy soon.

Vice President Mike Pence, who has been working for the ban, is likely the main reason for Trump's announcement.

Foreign Policy magazine Tuesday afternoon reported Pence "and his staff have been working quietly to get Congress to roll back the Defense Department’s year-old policy covering medical procedures for transitioning service members, according to sources."

Family Research Council's President Tony Perkins has also been working to bar transgender service members.

Springfield Bishop Thomas Paprocki #fundie thenewcivilrightsmovement.com

Springfield Bishop Thomas Paprocki in a new video has decreed that lawmakers and judges who have voted to support the constitutional right of same-sex couples to marry must no long take holy communion.

Fundie doesn't understand the bad reaction that resulted.

Paprocki also says that he has been asled to rescind his decree, but can't understand why, since it's just a "straightforward application of existing Catholic doctrine and canon law."

He finds it "quite astounding" that people would have been so outraged that he decreed legally married same-sex couples should be forced to denounce their soulmates so they could be buried in the Catholic church. Paprocki says the enormous outrage "shows how strong the LGBT lobby is both in the secular world as well as within the church."

Karen Miller #fundie thenewcivilrightsmovement.com

Local Officials Voting To Ask God To Bypass County 'In His Coming Wrath' Because, Gay Marriage

Now a member of the Blount County Board of Commissioners, Miller has a bit of a different stance on the First Amendment.

Tuesday evening, the Board will vote on her proposal urging God to bypass Blount County as he destroys America in response to same-sex marriage now being the law of the land.

Miller’s “Resolution Condemning Judicial Tyranny And Petitioning God’s Mercy” asks God to “pass us by in His Coming Wrath and not destroy our County as He did Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighboring cities.”

The resolution also says the county is “begging His favor in light of the fact that we have been forced to comply and recognize that the State of Tennessee, like so many other God-fearing States, MAY have fallen prey to a lawless judiciary in legalizing what God and the Bible expressly forbids."

It also notes their “a firm reliance upon the providence of Almighty God” as they “call upon all of the Officers of the State of Tennessee, the Governor, the Attorney General, and the members of the Tennessee Legislature, to join US, and utilize all authority within their power to protect Natural Marriage, from lawless court opinions, AND THE financial schemes of the enemies of righteousness wherever the source AND defend the Moral Standards of Tennessee.”

The “Moral Standards of Tennessee” are not written anywhere, nor could we find the phrase published anywhere except in relation to Miller’s proposal.

Sally Kern #fundie thenewcivilrightsmovement.com

Oklahoma Republican state Rep. Sally Kern has introduced three bills targeting gay people. Were all three to become law it would be nearly impossible for members of the LGBT community to safely exist in the Sooner State.

HB1599, the Preservation and Sovereignty of Marriage Act, would literally defund same-sex marriage.

"No employee of this state and no employee of any local governmental entity shall officially recognize, grant or enforce a same-sex marriage license and continue to receive a salary, pension or other employee benefit at the expense of taxpayers of this state,” the bill reads. "No taxes or public funds of this state shall be spent enforcing any court order requiring the issuance or recognition of a same-sex marriage license," it adds.

Kern, who invokes religion frequently and penned a book titled The Stoning of Sally Kern: The Liberal Attack on Christian Conservatism--and Why We Must Take a Stand, labels the need for her law an "emergency."

"It being immediately necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety, an emergency is hereby declared to exist, by reason whereof this act shall take effect and be in full force from and after its passage and approval."

Her second bill attacking gay people is the Freedom to Obtain Conversion Therapy Act. HB1598 is aimed at ensuring parents are legally enabled to force their children to undergo therapy based on junk science and religion that most major medical organizations have labeled harmful, dangerous, and ineffective.

"The people of this state have the right to seek and obtain counseling or conversion therapy from a mental health provider in order to control or end any unwanted sexual attraction, and no state agency shall infringe upon that right," it reads. "Parents may obtain such counseling or therapy for their children under eighteen (18) years of age without interference by the state."

Ex-gay, reparative, or conversion therapy is known to cause depression and may increase the risk of suicide.

Kern's third bill, HB1597, would allow broad discrimination encoded into the law. A take on the increasingly popular Religious Freedom Restoration Acts that are sweeping the country in the wake of legalized same-sex marriage, Kern's legislation specificaly targets LGBT people for discrimination.

"No business entity shall be required to provide any services, accommodations, advantages, facilities, goods or privileges related to any lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender person, group or association," it reads.

Under Kern's bill, anyone can discriminate against LGBT people for any reason at all, or for no reason at all.

An LGBT person could literally be shunned by their entire town, unable to purchase food, rent or buy a home, buy a car, gasoline, insurance, clothing, or even electricity. They could find no doctor in their town will provide medical attention. If an LGBT person were to have a heart attack, a private ambulance service or EMT could legally refuse to assist or take him or her to the hospital. That hospital, if private, could legally refuse them service under Kern's law.

Kern has a long history of targeting and attacking the LGBT community. She has characterized gays as "dangerous," "sinful," and as "an enemy who wants to destroy us," and said gays have hijacked freedom and equality "to destroy the future of America." She has claimed that gays and homosexuality are "more dangerous" than terrorists and labeled same-sex marriage "debauchery." Kern in 2011 was officially rebuked for racist and misogynistic comments he made on the House floor.

Yulia Volkova #fundie thenewcivilrightsmovement.com

The rock duo, t.A.T.u. became famous for the video of their single, All The Things She Said, which features a memorable same-sex (neither woman is actually a lesbian) kiss in the rain. (left) Now one of the members has revealed she is actually a raging homophobe.

Citing an interview which has since been removed from YouTube, the pop-culture site Refinery 29 reports Yulia Volkova as saying she would never accept a gay son.

"Yes, I would condemn him, because I believe that a real man must be a real man. God created man for procreation, it is the nature. The man for me is the support, the strength male voice, male look. Definitely no, I won't support a gay son."

The stunned interviewer reacted, saying:

"Stop, stop. You just told me that you do not mind if your daughter was a lesbian. You were talking about freedom."

But Yulia doubled down:

"This only applies to a daughter, not a son. I think for men, it's a bad freedom. A man has no right to be a fag. Two girls together, not the same thing as the two men together. It seems to me that lesbians look aesthetically much nicer than two men holding their hands or kissing."

The amazing part of the interview is that Yulia insists she isn't homophobic. She explains it's just that she wants her son "to be a real man, not a fag." She finished by saying:

"Being gay is still better than murderers, thieves, or drug addicts. If you choose out of all this, being gay is better than the rest."

Rev. Scott Carpenter #fundie thenewcivilrightsmovement.com

North Carolina Pastor Scott Carpenter says he "had to" tell Kings Mountain High School graduating seniors that if they are gay they are going to hell. Carpenter was invited to speak at the school's on-campus annual baccalaureate service, an evening event to celebrate and honor seniors' accomplishments but one which students are not required to attend.

"Nobody got bashed or anything. All I did was simply speak biblical truth," Carpenter, an interim pastor at Temple Baptist Church told WBTV. "The number one audience that I have to please is God."

Carpenter says he has no regrets, and stressed that parents and students merely "reacted" to his message.

"Do I hate anybody? Absolutely not. I just love them too much not to tell them the truth," Carpenter said. "Was I trying to be mean spirited? Absolutely not. Was I trying to hurt somebody's feelings? Absolutely not. I was simply had to do what I had to do as a Christian minister."
