The penis is not erected with muscles, but through two structures consisting of erectile tissue running through it - the corpus cavernosum on the upper side which forks towards the base and anchors it to the hip bones and the corpus spongiosum running around the urathrea and expands at the tip to form the glans – becoming engorged with blood.
