No, no, it’s not out of our way. Just straightforward, this is a fact, this is how we know. It pisses some people off. Ask them for how THEY know.
If that's true you may want to evaluate if what you like and cherry pick from the Bible is true or not. Much of it isn't, like its creation and flood myths, the war propaganda of leaders of the time, the false genealogies for the power justification of an elite, etc. It also holds some information about the cultural practices of ancient people, that modern humans don't necessarily need to follow, especially when it encourages evil acts...
Edit/Adding: I too was raised in a tradition of falsehoods, the Jehovah's Witnesses cult. For some fundamentalists it is possible to eventually understand the difference between claims and knowledge, between wishthinking fantasy and reality. It's not easy and the peer pressure and manipulation tactics of a high control group are intended to make learning harder. The reason why they need such control is precisely because much of their tenets rest on false premises. There is no need to fear knowledge if you seek the truth. If reality happens to threaten your business model, you must recognize that you're also responsible for spreading lies.
It’s almost as if the Bible was written by very fallible mortals with very little information and even less interest in arriving at an as-unbiased-as-possible view who, as it turned out, got pretty much everything wrong…
Please tell that to my High School science teacher, a practicing Catholic who very much believes in evolution. He could probably enlighten you to as to why your argument is so inherently wrong, if it wasn’t for the fact your brain is so closed off to evidence that contradicts your worldview.

I generally agree and think that you already know but just stating the obvious, since it was relevant for my own development: the presentation and analysis matters, I would never today view old claims in old texts the way the JWs wanted me to, after an understanding of their origins and how every group simply cherry picks and interprets those old texsts how they please, to make the irrelevant appear relevant today...
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
