The way I understand it, the OP's stance would be within metaphysical idealism and mysticism, magical thinking, reality denial, etc. Do I assert that "materialism" is "reality"? I'm not exactly a physicalist. But I've experienced what it is to be lost in metaphysical idealism and endless circular pseudointellectual philosophy. And to suddenly discover why the scientific method allowed to transcend philosophy on all aspects. By dedicating itself to testing what is real and by dealing with common human fallacies. It's obvious that human brains are unreliable, that ancient mythology was nonsense, but can be understood in the context of the people who wrote and disseminated it. That some universal effort is required to go further and beyond human nature, to a point where that nature itself can be explored. Science is just that...
Humans are indeed irrational and exploitators know that. This sounds just like what they want you to swallow. It also appears to be compatible with chaos and flooding the zone with shit. It's easier to manipulate confused people. True education is dangerous for fascists, for the same reason. Why do I say true education? To contrast it with misleading indoctrination, attempts to dictate, including what "nature" should be, instead of learning what it is. It makes all the difference between "we can never know anything and everything is subjective opinion" and actual knowledge discovery and reality assessment.
I'm actually of a "spiritual" nature who eventually came to what I consider an acceptable understanding of the experiences that I lived, that at the same time confirms why my delusions of grandeur never led to my ideals. That actual work in the world was required to achieve results, not imaginary games and magic. I can enjoy deep irrational experiences as anyone else, learning about science didn't turn me into some robot. I play and enjoy mystic music, for instance.
Just last week, something that doesn't occur to me as often as I would like did: a short sleep paralysis episode. But by the time I was lucid enough to detect it, when I tried to trigger an OOBE experience from it, I just was completely awaken before it worked.
Finally, because humans are irrational is no reason to retrograde society to the ideals of ignorant people or to accept the abuses of stupid narcissists. Ethics and human rights can still be improved. Afterall, it also protects the freedoms of the fantasists against such abuses. And if you're adapting this to crime and forensics, I'm an example of someone who changed his opinions on many things. Can an old state of myself be described as "my nature" am I simply a result of "programming"? Are some "programs" harmful to society is a more interesting question, perhaps, when put in context. Acknowledging change is still different to denying responsibility for one's past actions... Then is justice really torture, or is "torture" an argument for persecution complex? Torture exists but tends to be prevalent where human rights records are poor in general.
