There’s been no reports that Netflix is particularly firing LGBTQIA+ employees.
They’re also reducing the amount of original works they produce. A lot of that is “diversity content”; i.e. stuff where the primary intended audience is not cishet whites. It’s also expected that the diversity content will be reduced at a somewhat higher rate than the other things, due to them more often falling on the lower end of the cost-to-audience ratio. This, and the downsizing, are both economic decisions made to offset a falling userbase, which is primarily due to stiff competition with HBOMax and Disney+.
All this is incidental (and mildly unfortunate), not “Karma” from protesting Dave Chapelle or a decline in “wokeism” or whatever other nonsense they’re imagining.
What @Zinnia said. Also, if Netflix really is cutting down on all their LGBTQIA+ & feminist content just for the sake of it, then explain recent hits like Wednesday? Or even Dragon Age Absolution, which features 2 homosexual couples in the main cast. Or any of the dozens of others that I can’t bother to think of right now.
Seriously, even an idiot could figure this simple math out: more competition from Disney+, Amazon Prime, etc. means less revenue for Netflix. Less revenue means less original content. Less original content overall means less LGBTQIA+ & feminist content.
