Do you seriously not notice that we are opposed to human trafficking, of which slave trade was indeed a legalised form? That human smugglers are in business *because* anti-immigration makes it unfeasible to immigrate or seek asylum legally while doing nothing to fix the desperation that causes the immigrants and refugees to abandon their homes in the hopes of starting a new life elsewhere, even knowing that there is a great risk that it may all be for naught, getting deported and being left with nothing at all, and that it is in this desperation that people make deals with these devils? That we want to make borders more open *because* we want to eliminate the demand for such desperate attempts to enter the country? And that your stupid “Gotcha!” arguments never actually work, but only show off how bad your understanding of the other side is?

Also, a critical difference that is actually in favour of your side: The illegal immigrants technically *did* agree to this, while the slaves were not given a choice. By the way, do you not see the unfortunate implication of equating the ancestors of African Americans with people you certainly want to see deported even if they have an “anchor baby”?
