TAKE ACTION:
1) Call or write Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL) [202-224-2854; Chicago 312-886-3506; online Comment Form HERE] and urge him to stop rewarding anti-Christian bigotry. Ask him to return this “Freedom Award” from the hateful anti-Christian homosexual group, Equality Illinois–which in 2012 launched a failed pressure campaign to kick Chick-fil-A restaurants out of Illinois.
2) Call or write the Republican National Committee [Contact Form HERE] and its Chairman, Reince Priebus [202-863-8500; choose ext. "1"], and urge them to stand firm against the aggressive Homosexual Lobby, which is targeting Christian leaders and businesses like Chick-fil-A for demonization. Tell Priebus that when Republicans like Sen. Mark Kirk embrace Democratic-type social liberalism, it only deflates the pro-family GOP grassroots. Lastly, urge Priebus to PUBLICLY oppose ENDA, the radical Employment Non-Discrimination Act. Thank Chairman Priebus for being publicly pro-life–but urge him also to make the case against “Big Gay Government” (e.g., ENDA)–and Obama’s push to nationalize “same-sex marriage”–as part of the RNC’s regular public Talking Points.

You know, I agree. Fundamentalist Christians ought to encourage the Republican Party to be as homophobic as possible. They should render it so that as many of its candidates as possible are people who say things like "homosexuality is caused by backwards Satanic messages in rock music". And while your're at it, get people who say that "blacks, by and large, were better off during the Antebellum period than they are now", that "women's hypergamy is destroying western civilization", and that "the poor used to, and ought to resume being, content to work for a dollar a week", as well. I mean, then it'll be SURE to win, because God will truly favor it then, now won't he?
Pete LaBastard, I don't think you know the meaning of "hate group," given that you are the head of one.
Equality Illinois is dedicated to protecting the rights of LGBT persons in Illinois, not denying rights to the 76% of Illinois that is Christian. I don't blame them for trying to remove Chick-Fil-A restaurants from Illinois because Chick-Fil-A funds hate groups.
More Americans are becoming socially liberal. Bernie Sanders is extremely popular in his home state, I hear. The last thing ENDA is is radical. It merely says that discriminating against people based upon sexual orientation is illegal. Not a hundred years ago people were proposing that racial discrimination in hiring were outlawed. Discriminating by sexual orientation IS a lot like discriminating by race.
You know, Chick-fil-A funded people who in Ugznda pushed for homosexuality to be a capital felony and "settled" eventually for "mere" life imprisonment ; it is thus normal people would want to boycott them.
And nobody yet created a conspiracy theory about the Democratic Party sending and funding moles in the GOP advocating the ideas contained in aebars's post so that the Republican party look like a party full of reactionnaries.
"and urge them to stand firm against the aggressive Homosexual Lobby, which is targeting Christian leaders and businesses like Chick-fil-A for demonization."
Great, will you stop jacking off to the One Million Moms website then? Because they called for boycotts on any company that doesn't discriminate against gay people. No? Didn't think so.
So the Christian rightwingers have been screaming for boycotts for years (including Ford, Home Depot, Old Navy, Pepsi, Glee, Burger King, Toyota, Lexus, Cellular South, Google and Disney), but gay people start flexing their new found political muscle and suddenly boycotts are all wrong.
Peter, you really have to try being less of a hypocrite.
@aebars:
I really don't think they need any help becoming any more reactionary. Many of their candidates are pretty outspoken crazy far-right. Look at the quotes from Mary Helen Sears we had here recently. You thought 2012 brought out the crazies, but looks like they're getting worse. Now there's a huge rift in the GOP between traditional conservatives and the more outspoken far right teabaggers. They probably all want the same thing, it's just that the traditional Republicans know that you can't be that outspoken about it.
@JeanP :
I think that would have been a great idea but the Republicans don't need any help looking crazy.
For a Republican, Mark Kirk is a pretty good senator; that's enough to get him primaried by the Tea Party, even if he's not facing re-election this year. Mark Kirk has stood up against discrimination and if Peter LaBarbera is pissed, that should be a badge of honor.
"stop rewarding anti-Christian bigotry."
ANTI-CHRISTIAN
Standardspeak: Anyone advocating outlawing Christianity, who would harass Christians for being Christians, vandalize Christians' property, claim that 'property values would drop' if Christians that are open about their faith moved in next to them...
Fundiespeak: Anyone who disagrees with the notion that Christians deserve special legal priviliges as reward for being Christians.
Employment Non-Discrimination Act?! Oh NO! We can't have *that*! We will end up with people who aren't slim, able, straight, WASP males working with us! Chase those vermin OUT!
@Malingspann : Seconded!
Only in the eyes of the truly delusional bigots is opposition to a business that endorses discrimination an act of discrimination in itself. Nobody had an issue with Chick-fil-A because it's a Christian owned business. Decent people had a big problem with said business unapologetically funding anti-gay groups, though, and publicly stating that they only supported "traditional families." Which means no queers allowed. If they didn't want backlash and boycotts maybe they shouldn't have been prejudice dicks?
Yeah, good thing there is no Homosexual Lobby or Big Gay Government. Nothing for you to stand against, then. The non-problem solved itself. The Employment Non-Discrimination Act is rational and rather important, not extremist. Only extremists view it as extreme, sorry.
"... and urge them to stand firm against the aggressive Homosexual Lobby"
So you're only opposed to the Lobby for aggressive homosexuals, then?
The "bottoms", you're okay with?
""stand firm against the aggressive Homosexual Lobby"
So you're only opposed to the Lobby for aggressive homosexuals, then?"
We are the aggressive Homosexual Lobby; crack Suicide Squad! Suicide Squad - attack!! (stabs themselves) That showed'em huh?
Free Speech: Boycott Disney or any equal rights company
Discrimination: Critisizing ANY Christian speech or agenda.
They fucking believe this and no, they don't see the hypocracy.
Ted Nugent, Sarah Palin and Phil Robertson can say whatever they like but no-one is allowed to correct them or criticize their comments. Seen it over and over, the American Exceptionalism rewrites are being followed up by the Christian Exceptionalism (right-Wing only) of special pleading mandates.
They believe everyone else has NO RIGHT to critisize or be heard, it's dark ages assertions. Notice how the Tea-Party canidates refuse to be put in a position of answering to the public? They want the political arena to reflect the pulpit method, they talk, you shutup and never ever question them, they spout half formed ideas and offer no real policy or product and you cheer "Amen" or "U.S.A."
It's just like a Sunday in a hate/fear mongering Southern church, that old time religions is new southern politics.
Confused?
