If Trump is convicted, it won't matter. He will win the election. His VP would then be sworn in as President (if he's in jail). Then his VP can pardon him and make Trump the VP. Then after that Trump can run for President again, in either 2028 or 2032 depending on how long he remains VP. That's another 12 years in the WH for Trump.

Good work Democrats.

Trump won't be alive for another 12 years let alone be president that long.

Trump’s conviction will push a bit of the far right to vote for him but it will only be a fractional few that were not already going to vote Trump. He will lose more moderate Republicans and independents then he gains on the far right.

I said before that I was reasonably sure that the VP wouldn’t become president in this scenario, but it turns out that this is incorrect, what would happen is that the VP-elect would be sworn in as VP, and then shortly after, be sworn in as president. It would only fall to the House to elect a replacement if there was also no VP for some reason. (The Speaker only automatically gets the role if there was already a President.) Still, this presumes all of the following:

1.) There are no prison sentences due to State-level charges. A president can’t pardon those.
2.) The VP-elect is actually willing to pardon him. Likely, but not a guarantee.
3.) The VP-elect is willing to nominate Trump as VP and step down, rather than keeping power for themselves. No way that would have happened with Pence in 2016, because he was the “chosen one” and not Trump (at least before he got sidelined and the fundies somehow forgot about this) but he has no pick yet, so who even knows.

That’s enough “ifs” to make it iffy.

So it turns out Biden being Obama’s third-term puppet is yet another case of Republican accusations being projections of their own evil plans.

By the time he’s selected as a VP, he’s going to be right round the bend. I would love to see his confirmation hearing at the Senate as the GOP majority tries hard, REALLY hard to toss him softballs which he answers by ranting about voter turnout in 2016, 2020, 2024, and 9/11, confusing President Placeholder with Obama, Kennedy, Biden, Pelosi, and Ivana.
And feeling up his counsel on national TV.

But why would you want that, what good would it do?
