[From "DHS Announces Ministry of Truth"]
Let’s hope Elon Musk has the good sense to move Twitter to Texas […] Texas might not be far enough. If patriots are able to liberate a Silicon Valley cat’s paw, Big Government will then do the dirty work of [url=https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2022/04/27/department-of-homeland-security-sets-up-disinformation-governance-board-to-fight-misinformation/imposing censorship itself[/url]:
The Department of Homeland Security is setting up a Disinformation Governance Board[…]
“Misinformation/disinformation” is Liberalese for any speech our rulers want to suppress
Like something out of George Orwell, the Department of Homeland Security perversely facilitates the invasion of the country […]
“Disinformation is a threat to democracy”
She should have said “our democracy”[…] they mean “Democrat rule”[…]
We are already forced to finance Democrat propaganda through PBS and NPR. But Jankowicz wants more government speech[…]
If social media companies won’t do it on their own, they will be forced to[…] Musk will have the federal leviathan to contend[…]
As many thousands of unlawful invaders pour across the border to displace us[…] under the approving gaze of DHS, we can feel secure in the knowledge that this new Ministry of Truth will keep us safe from facts and opinions that threaten the power of our rulers

Only in the world where…
…every Thursday there’s a TV show called Looking Back. 8.00 PM - 7.00 PM.
…Newfoundland is a country, it never became part of Canada.
…the plot of Alice (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11040762/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_6 ) happened for real. Except the real-life version of Alice (Keke Palmer) did run away from a plantation in 1843, encountered a random time warp and found herself in 1973.
…instead of the alien cliche Little Green Men, there was Little Orange Men.
While I do find it odd the Department of Homeland Security would be put in charge of a program to curb the amount of disinformation coming from the ever-lying alt-right, they're correct that misinformation, disinformation, and outright lies are a threat to national security - and these things are designed to be a threat to the operation of democracy , fed into the pool of public discourse by bad actors.
We see the result of that bad action every day on this board: foolish misinformation or even downright lies designed to confuse, frighten, distract, and divide the public; drawing common attention away from real problems with endless political theater.
Hysterics like what appear in the original post are a result of poor critical thinking and of too much exposure to disinformation.
Note all the typical fear tactics in the original post: invoking "1984" as a comparison, claiming government will involve itself in private business, and then - oh so shockingly - the original poster blows the dog whistle about Mexican invaders at the US southern border.
In the US, mainstream right-wing politics are barely if at all based on any semblance of facts or reality, so something needs to be done to fix that in order to stand a chance of salvaging American democracy. Hell, I would even argue that this is not going far enough, and at the very least , I would also reinstate the Fairness Doctrine and update it to apply to all for-profit broadcast, digital, and print media.
...but what about Twitter in China? So much profit to be made there.
The fact that components for his Tesla cars are made in that country should tell you something of why Elon daren't fuck with ol' Xi.

Musk isn’t going to buy Twitter. Musk found a way to convert a bunch of stocks to cash without causing a run on the market. Because it’s to make a big purchase, not out of fear Tesla stock’s about to crash.
Now he just has to violate the rules of the purchase contract enough to duck the buyout. And if the Right thought the Left was miffed about the apparent restoration of Trump to Twitter, just wait until the Right sees that fantasy fall through…
Confused?
