And then the gay person with child-from-previous marries the suddenly single gay person, and we end up with two gay couples who have adopted kids. Legally.

It's a typical right-wing trope to confuse all forms of socialism with the extremes where some communist and soviet regimes went (i.e. Mao, Stalin) and to create that "commie" straw man. In the case of fascism, it's very ironic because they adopt the legacy of people like Lenin and Hitler and their fear-mongering, hate and authoritarianism... They also typically play with the fact that Nazism called itself socialist, even if it really wasn't. That's very ironic too.

The ideals of social democracies are really different and have actually been quite successful, other than being subject to sabotage by those who abuse rights to ramp up corruption and erode rights.

This reminds me of how, in recent years, there seems to be an increase in the number of people who demand forgiveness because they were “honest”… or perhaps the phenomenon was always somewhat common, it’s just become more visible. An example is someone who cheats on their partner, and then goes “oh by the way, I’ve been having sex with so-and-so, will continue to do so, also we now have an open relationship” and ignores or overrides any objections. Then they get served with divorce papers, or their boyfriend/girlfriend/fiance/lover breaks up with them and moves out, or whatever, and they’re all like “but I engaged in open and honest communication in my relationship like I was supposed to! That should have made things all right!” This seems to be the same sort of thinking, applied to international relations.

In some cases, like anxiety management (still not to replace any medication that may be necessary) directed attention can be useful. If praying works for you, why not, but others may be fine with other thoughts that they find appropriate or helpful.

When praying brings you back to bad memories of your past, including when you felt helpless and resorted to prayer, instead of assessing problems and actual solutions, it may not really be useful...

How about climate change related meteorological events? Hydro-electricity projects require some water management, but can also contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gases contributing to the heating.

When there's more conflict, any progress is also retrograded. And we know how Trump's regime also uses mass disinformation campaigns, how some other countries like Russia have also trolled to install Trump...
