From a guy who epitomizes Britain’s history of classism and one sided social power dynamics ruled by a privileged few who only tolerate the masses to exist as they have duties to perform and unspoken understanding that no contract with those of lesser station need be considered binding as those peasants and savages “do not understand the values” of such a contract claiming the British people fundamentally expect a fair deal is laughable. He and those like him don’t offer or expect deals, they expected to dictate terms and tithes. Brexit’s entire premise was that Britain should retain all the benefits of being in the EU without having to reciprocate. That being the same as anyone else was fundamentally unfair.
