As part of the Kraft durch Freude movement, the Third Reich produced a brochure for foreign visitors about Germany: entitled “Deutschland”. Unfortunately for those you worship, that never came to pass: annexation of Sudetenland & invasion of Poland put a stop to what would never become a country to visit - between 1939 to certainly after 1945 - for a holiday.
Speaking of holidays, another part of the KdF movement was Prora: but that was a ripoff of Butlins holiday camps in Britain. And unlike the massive success those havens of happiness Sir Billy Butlin created pre-WWII and beyond: some of which still exist to this day, that which was part of KdF - despite huge spending of public money on the construction of such - never became a leisure resort during a ‘Thousand Year Reich’ that barely lasted twelve.
Speaking of KdF, another part of that: a savings scheme. Those of the Fuhrer’s ‘Volk’ who faithfully paid into that via stamps in a book which, when filled, would be exchanged for a nice thing: a car. Why is it that not so much as one person in the Third Reich received their KdF-wagen, Tatty?
