Sure! Those boundaries were for our protection… BUUUUT those rules were composed IN A TIME WHEN BIRTH CONTROL WAS PRIMITIVE AND NON-EXISTENT, PATERNITY COULD NOT BE DETERMINED, STIs WERE FLOATING AROUND WITHOUT A CURE IN SIGHT AND GERM-THEORY WASN’T A THING!
For one to be a good adherent to a faith, they need to apply REASON & CONTEXT to the stuff in their scriptures as well as consider that Divine Revelation is filtered through imperfect biased human minds!
A lot of religions put a bunch of rules on sex but they were written in a time when that was necessary. Even polygyny was about addressing the oft-lopsided ratio of guys and gals that often happened due to frequent warfare. Since there was often way much more gals than guys (and gals couldn’t be as independent as guys) it was important that these gals were cared for and had a roof over their head.
Those food rules and circumcision were also for then-good reasons. Some meats tended to be more parasitic than others and there was no refrigeration (shellfish would go bad almost instantly). There wasn’t a lot of water and water was needed for drinking and cooking so bathing was infrequent and a lot of gunk would get in guy’s junk. Avoiding gals when Aunt Flo would make her monthly visit was for similar reasons as well as all those other weird rules involving semen and such. All that body go could bring disease and water was in short supply.
However, we live in a world where we understand disease, have treatments and cures for most of those diseases, have reliable contraception, plentiful water and soap, more balanced gender roles (gals can be self-sufficient), refrigeration, etc. so a large amount of rules and standards involving sexuality and food from various faith traditions are no longer necessary and rendered obsolete.
Spirit of the Law, not the Letter!
Religion and The Divine / Providence / Higher Things are like the hand pointing to the sunrise (respectively). A truly spiritual person looks upon the sunrise but you dolts stare at the pointing hand! Religion is a tool to practice spirituality, not spirituality itself.
You fundies will never see that because you’re all authoritarians who get off on bullying, controlling and oppressing others. Have you ever considered seeing a psychotherapist to address your huge egos and feelings of inadequacy?
