I heard an independent fundamental Baptist preacher, he's like, “You know it is not right for me to tell my wife when we are going to have kids, you know I need to ask her permission, or ask when it's OK to start having kids.”

And I'm like, “Are you a man? Are you a Baptist? You're a fundamental Baptist preacher and you're going to ask your wife it it's OK to have children?”

I think it’s kinda obvious (to me at least lol) that that would be a thing that both parties in any relationship should be in agreement on. If you’re going into the marriage where you both have the idea of “we’re just gonna see what happens and have however many kids as the husband wants or can produce” then, OK, that’s fine, whatever, but you should establish an understanding of that beforehand, ya know?

Remind us again what women are supposed to have agency with. Not aborting any child is one thing, but no say in when she’s bearing at all?!

Just, how the hell should that MOT be the woman’s decision? It is SHE who will have to grow the child inside her, who is taking all the discomfort and risk to life and limb, and on top of that, you sexist scumbag will certainly insist that she would have to do all the actual parenting!

And, really, I feel that this attitude devalues parenthood, especially motherhood. Children are costly in time of money and time and effort and emotions and, for the mother, in vital ressources as well. Is it not better to acknowledge this, to honour those who make the active, affirmative decision that the next generation is more than worth this price, when they see themselves ready for this task, to the numbers they see themselves able to support, than to reduce parenthood as something simply taken for granted?

I like how just the idea that the man and the woman TOGETHER make the decision makes this snowflake fear for his testicles, because if it’s not THE MAN making the decisions, it’s the woman!

With how he seems to treat women due to having masculinity so fragile that simply talking about what your partner wants is for sissies in his mind, I’m more just surprised this guy even HAS a wife in the first place.

Remember in hardcore fundie circles, thinking about doing something to a woman is as bad as actually doing it. It’s why they have sucn an issue with rapists and molesters; people who probably wouldn’t do it otherwise have the thought pop into their heads for a SECOND and assume they’re in trouble anyway, so why not go all the way?

Given your wife will get to have to bear parts of the responsabilities of the household (and isn’t it the very definition of marriage in most societies?), I think she should have some input on the question.
