“Well, I have had enough.”
STOP THE PRESSES! John’s had ENOUGH! Remove all progress from progressing! HE HATH SPOKED!
Anyway…
“In the last few years, Thor is a girl,”
Thor is an office. Thor’s had a few stand-ins before. There always has to be a Thor. Just not a guy.
“Wolverine is a girl,”
Wolverine is still Wolverine, far as i can see. There’s just another mutant with similar powers.
“Hawkeye is a girl,”
Hawkeye is Hawkeye, his daughter is doing the adventure stuff.
“Vision is a girl,”
Vision is an android. Vision is any sex you want them to be, just install different equipment, publish different pronouns.
"Hulk is a girl,”
No, She-Hulk is a separate character, and goes back, I think, to the 70s?
“Iron Man is a girl,”
A woman has worn the armor before. A bit tight on the chest, she’s complained. But, still, you wear a nuclear powered suit that can fly and punch through a tank, who’s going to stop you if you identify as Iron Man?
"The Question is a girl,”
The thing about masked superheroes, see, is it could be anyone under the mask.
"M from James Bond is a girl”
And again, M is an office. Someone took the position. Nothing about the desk inherently requires a dick.
“and the Ancient One from Dr Strange is a girl.”
I’m picking up a theme, here. You’re afraid of women.
“These are not merely female sidekicks or variations, as when Batgirl or Supergirl dons a costume to help out an established male character.”
That’s exactly what the first female Iron Man did.
And all of Thor’s stand-ins.
Wolverine’s clone, Hawkeye’s daughter, She-Hulk, and M are independent characters. Emma, at least, was a former agent. The original M was just some guy. No backstory, no character development. Just the voice that told 007 to go kill people.
"These are replacements for the male meant to erase the masculinity from the name brand.”
How do you know the meaning of these choices? Is it written down somewhere? Or are you just taking it personally?
"These are heroines meant to erase the hero,”
By taking the same name?
“and shove him down the memory hole.”
Yes, yes, we’re all going to forget THOR because THOR is a lightning goddESS, now. Uh huh. Good argument, there.
"They are to literature what politically correct Newspeak is to vocabulary: a false-to-facts symbol or emblem.”
False to facts? What PC move is moving us AWAY from factual? I mean, the whole point of PC is ti limit accidental offense. People cannot be offended by The Truthiness. Because it’s true.
“The replacement of male with female is meant to erase femininity.”
Ah. No, it’s just that ‘feminine’ doesn’t have to mean weak, dependent, damsel in distress. She-Hulk is plenty feminine. Just not dainty.
“In point of fact, and no matter what anyone thinks or wishes, readers and viewers have a different emotional relationship to female characters as male.”
If this is a fact, you have a study, somewhere, to back this up?
“This does not mean, obviously, that females cannot be protagonists or cannot be leaders. It means mothers cannot be fathers and queens cannot be kings.”
You say it’s removing femininity, but you base it on the definition of social positions. So, it’s whether or not YOU think femininity can or ever includes the physical ability to deliver a beat-down.
I also note you’re only saying ‘female’ positions cannot be ‘male’ positions. Bit of a give-away there, i think.
“It means if you want a female Norse warrior goddess, go get Lady Sif or Valkyrie, and leave Thor alone.”
Well, it MIGHT mean that if you had any say in the matter. The people who actually own the rights to the character, however, can do what they want.
“It means if you want female Time Lady from Gallifrey, go make a spin off show starring Romana or Susan or The Rani, and leave The Doctor alone.”
Again, you don’t get a vote. Nothing about The Doctor’s job absolutely requires a dick. Also, he’s been replaced by a woman before. Joanna Lumley to be specific.
