US election season is like 1½ years out of every 2. If you only count the last half-year, when things start getting really serious, and count when these diseases started really mattering in the US and not when it was first noted as a potential global issue, both of them were still a few months away from the main part of the election cycle. so it’s not like most Republican candidates were blindsided by random last minute “disease fearmongering” or whatever you’re implying. Now the voters who only watch FOX News, on the other hand…
Perfectly timed with a national election? You mean like a year before? Not sure how "perfect" that is, especially since if Trump handled it well he'd possibly have gotten a boost and won.

Conspiracy theory that they're voluntarily spread, it's unclear if the false assumption is that it would be by a supernatural entity (superstition of divine or evil intervention), mad scientist sterotypes, or whatever. In either case, it promotes ignorance about medicine, sexuality, human beings...
