Problem is, there’s a promise of more important things—food, tissue, clothing, etc.—also going up in price.
But we do need food. We do need housing. We need clothing, especially if you’ve got kids because they’re constantly growing out of things. In America, corporations have made it so lots of us have to drive everywhere unless we have access to public transportation. Oh yeah, and the cost of that will likely go up too. Why? Because when buses, trains, our beloved cars, etc, need repairs or maintenance, there are now huge tariffs on the materials we use to do that. There are now tariffs on our food. Those bananas and strawberries and blueberries y’all love in the winter time? They don’t come from the US, and if they do, they come from California. And since shipping them has gone way up because of tariffs on basic materials, the prices are going to be through the roof for everything. Get used to eating stuff like cabbage, potatoes, and beets because those are the veggies that can be grown in cold climates. Get used to saving your pay to buy meat once a month. It’s not just tech gadgets - it’s the basic things we require to live.

No. It’s because just the firmware-driven windcreen wiper blade alone would cause it to fail an MOT inspection here in Britain thus the whole thrice-damned thing would be illegal to so much as exist on the King’s Highway. It’s the fact that those… things would never be allowed to be sold over here that would affect Elol. Why?
Because those measures were taken against that particular Tesla vehicle way before these tariffs.
Even before 20th January 2025, for that matter.

The word new is doing a lot of work here.
Do you mean the latest model? You technically have a point here, but tarrifs won't stop the wealthiest from getting one.
Do you mean freshly manufactured? Tarrifs are going to be a problem even for older models because they still have to be imported.
Do you mean new to you, as in refurbished? Again, tarrifs will cause prices to go up because there are only a finite number available and parts would still have to be imported.
Do you mean buying used? There's still a finite supply, which will dwindle as they need to be repaired or replaced.
In short, broad tarrifs will make things worse no matter how you look at them. And you can't weasel out of the problem by telling people to go without things you decide aren't necessities.

Yep, and besides, if you’re trying to get a new, potentially better job, and if they can’t get ahold of you to schedule an interview because you’re always at your potentially several minimum wage jobs and you’ve only got a landline, you’re going to miss out on those opportunities. They will go to the person who has a cell phone and can be reached in a reasonable amount of time.
These dudes are so privileged they don’t have to think like this. Good for them I guess but don’t try to take the stuff we need to succeed away.
I don’t have the fanciest phone on the market nor do I have any interest in getting it but I do have a cell phone. It’s important for my clients to be able to reach me, and for me to be able to reach them, especially in case of emergencies. A landline wouldn’t help whatsoever if I’m out on a walk somewhere and a dog or I get injured.
You know, i seem to recall people being told, durinmg the Pandemic, you don’t NEED a haircut. You don’t NEED to go to a bar. You don’t NEED to be surrounded by a congregation to worship, god hears you at home.
