“What hope does atheism offer?”
Hope? What hope does it need to offer?
Does electrical theory offer ‘hope’?
Near as I can tell, it describes how electrons flow through wires under specific conditions. It’s the universe as I understand it.
“In light of the word "hope" being used so much during this years elections, I was wondering...”
Ah. But it’s not my atheism driving my vote for Obama. Category mismatch.
“What hope does atheism truly offer humanity?”
Nine thousand religions say that they’re the only way to avoid Hell. And all the other religions are wrong and guarantee a Hell, of some sort or another. So they only agree on one thing: Every religion is 8999 to 1 against.
I don’t believe in Hell. At all. Not a single one of them. So, you have one hope of Heaven out of 9000 chances, pretty much dooming you to Hell, statistically. I have zero hope of Heaven, zero fear of Hell.
“I mean no disrespect to my fellow atheist's on the R&S.”
Just not enough respect to actually understand our stance.
“It's just that, I understand that different faiths offer hope is many different ways.”
None of which i find credible…
“ As a born-again Christian I have the hope of eternal life through Jesus Christ.”
Unless the Mormons are right. Or the Catholics. Lutherans. Hindu, shinto, Greeks….
“ But to be honest atheism, as it pertains to giving hope, is an enigma to me.”
And I fear it always will be.
