Boring neoreactionary shlock quote-mining the guy that wrote The Anti-neoreactionary FAQ, The Categories Were Made for Man, not Man for the Categories, and, of course, Meditations on Moloch.
And yet, somehow, you managed to miss the point of all three of them.
I am not fighting Moloch. You are not fighting Moloch, either. Nobody who engages in political conflict is fighting Moloch, because Moloch is the evil entity that feeds on conflict. Every dishonest or unsustainable growth hack you use to increase the readership of your blog is a human sacrifice you made on Moloch’s altar. The actual “content” of your ideology barely has anything to do with it. Exaggerating the importance of issues that shouldn’t matter to most people, acting more confident than the facts can justify, if the medium is the message then those are the true messages of most blogs.
As for neoreaction, “but what if you get a bad king” is the stupidest objection to dictatorships. The serious objection is that the “God’s Eye view” outside the constraints and incentives of the system does not and can not exist. Dictatorships and absolute monarchies are not the stable equilibrium you want, and they are not the natural environment of evolutionary fitness that you pretend they are. A king that isn’t assassinated needs to appease the nobels. The real natural era for which our instincts evolved ended with the invention of farming. Unfortunately, the hunter-gatherers have been soundly defeated by agricultural civilization, leaving us with no clear RETVRN path that doesn’t end in just getting conquered again. (I would have a lot more respect for “nature”-obsessed neoreactionaries of they were advocating the hunter-gatherer lifestyle, because at least then they’d be consistent.)
And, finally, folks’ personal lives. To be blunt, linking the loneliness epidemic to gay and trans issues makes about as much sense as linking the decline of piracy to global warming. Stonewall happened in the early 1970’s. The loneliness epidemic started in the 2000’s or 2010’s, depending on exactly how you measure. There is some cross-pollination: if people had more healthy informal social lives, trans people in organized sports would probably be less of a big deal. But the decline of piracy is also linked to the rise in global warming because global warming only possible because of safe, cheap international trade. Everything is connected if you’re willing to be convoluted enough with your butterfly effect.
Funny thing about abstaining from the pursuit of power and influence is that it renders you powerless, but engaging in it feeds Moloch. Hell of a choice. It’s the sort of thing that makes one write poetic lamentations.
