To see such blatant undisguised nationalistic exceptionalism in the post-WWII world is always so bizarre and disquieting.

Assuming that it’s not just meaningless word association (it probably is, but let’s ignore that) I wonder what the cultural equivalent of “suicide bombing” would even be. Best I can come up with is indoctrinating everyone’s kids in something which you don’t even believe in just to spite “the other side”, and I can’t imagine anyone doing that. I can, however, imagine someone believing others are doing that, just because they can’t comprehend that other people can have very different beliefs.
The political equivalent of “suicide bombing” is easier - on the personal level, it’s torpedoing your own career and possibly risking prison for the sake of giving your party a short-term advantage; on the party level, it’s wrecking things for both/all parties in hopes that future members of your party will be able to take advantage. That’s not something I see liberals and/or Democrats doing.
