Why is it that the nuclear family has become some crazy, right wing fringe idea? It's literally what every fucking civilization has done since the beginning of time. Look what happens to people who have kids out of wedlock and act like degenerates. Getting married and having a two parent household is the best way for kids to grow up and it can be statistically proven. It's like the more knowledge we have available to us, the dumber we get.

That is again a typical idea of fundies and the right per se: if I’m not better than you, I am attacked.
Those people hate it to let go of their privileges because they can not see that it are privileges to begin with. They think that their model is better and therefore should be more supported.
Really the basis of every -ism is this
I guess you’ve never heard of households that contain three generations, then? Even though I think that was the standard in at least Spain for quite some time? By their lights, our so-called nuclear family is kind of scarified.

...oh, I dunno. But when you consider the name Jim Bob Buggar, you tell me.
And when just the... thing that is Josh Buggar alone has made the whole concept of the 'Nuclear' Family more toxic than Chernobyl, perhaps it's time that it was replaced with the Fusion Family: or the Antimatter Family.
Just ask Sir Elton John & David Furnish: and their two sons .
Actually most cultures have pretty much based themselves around an extended family, that have often even included people in the family with no known common ancestor even several generations back. It’s only the “freedom loving”TM psudeo-libertarian fascist wannabes who insist everyone must bow and scrape, offering worship to their ideology and their ideology alone, who think it should just be mom, dad, and siblings, with everyone else staying the fuck away.

In the world of Ing-Frey. A world where…
…Julius Caesar died a natural death.
…the pyramids of Egypt really were built by slaves.
…senator McCarthy went after single parents instead of communists.
…Christopher Columbus was a trans man.
…instead of flat-Earthers, there are cylindrical-Earthers.
The nuclear family is in fact more recent idea. Ancient civilisations had extended families where everyone pitched in to help out. And the problem is not with the nuclear family but with the right's insistence on insulting all other forms of family which tend to be formed by meed and circumstance, rather than by choice.

Because extended families and unconventional ones tend to adapt better to the current political and economic climate?

It literally is not. Again, extended families and clans were mostly how we banded and mated up for most of our existence as a species. You lose, Sir good day.

It’s not, Chicken Little.
What IS a right-wing nutball idea is that you guys want to insist that it’s the ONLY way to raise kids. There is plenty of room for other models, as has happened since fucking forever. Adoptions, merged, unmarried, Step-children, communal, and so on. And you guys demonize everything that’s not Norman Rockwell.
Confused?
