Liberals aren’t mostly atheists. There just aren’t that many atheists in the country.

An important point. The fact that it hasn’t died out does seem to indicate there’s a purpose for it, even if we haven’t fully identified it.
Also, by ‘survival of the fittest,’ they mean the best gene pool, not the best individual. Which in the case of humans means cooperation rather than competition.
