So the question here is; "Is sex with a thirteen year old abhorrent?" Having lost my virginity at that same age, I would have to say "no", so long as the sex was consentual. As for whether or not a thirteen year old can consent, legally they cannot, but realistically they sure can. Again, so long as the family is in agreement, I think the law ought to butt out.
So, the reason we have consent laws is not because they are being imposed on us from on high - at least in the United States, anyway. Many of the states, particularly the western states, first had English common law when they became territories, and then once they became states, a state constitution was ratified and many laws, including those regarding consent, were imposed. Since most of this was done in the 19th century, the aoc was initially really low. For instance, in my home state of Colorado, the aoc was 10 years old 🤢🤮
Then during the 20th century, women and women’s advocacy groups came together and said “this ‘10-year-olds can consent to sex or marriage’ stuff is a bunch of garbage!! Let’s change it!!” So they did.
The law is there to protect children and otherwise vulnerable people from predators. Like OOP possibly! And of course he wants it to be a ‘family decision’ - he probably thinks he can wheedle the family around to seeing his side and then making their daughters date him regardless of what they actually want.
