Okay, silver actually does have some anti-bacterial and anti-fungal capabilities. Taken internally is not good, because:
1. It works at killed all bacteria and fungi, including the stuff you want in your gut.
2. It’s not really even particularly effective at it as far as health is concern if you have an actual infection. In other words, all it can do is disrupt your own gut microbiome.
What it has been shown to be effective for, though there hasn’t been expansive study of this, is using it to cut down on micro-organism sourced odors. Joe Schwarcz wrote about receiving a silver thread laced pair of socks to assess for just this purpose, and when exercising wore one of these socks on one foot, and one of his own socks on the other, to compare. He did say that the silver-threaded sock was noticeably less powerful, though hadn’t quite eliminated the odor. In total though socks, shirts, and shorts laced with these threads could easily end up making a gym a lot less fragrant if everyone wore them, though.
For dealing with actual infections? No, a lot of other things are much better. Even packing a wound with silver is a bad idea, just use a good disinfectant followed by petroleum jelly, still nothing proven better for most wounds. And internally, doing nothing is better than ingesting silver, especially given what @DarkPhoenix has posted.
