I am not interested based on the fact that you’re already presenting a woman of color lead character to me. I’m already out.

First time presenting a YT video as a source, forgive me if I did something wrong.

Regardless of what your opinion is on Star Wars or Ubisoft as a whole, this is just uncalled for. Bashing a mere trailer for a promising upcoming game ONLY because the MC is a woman of color is simply disgusting. It makes me ashamed to be a white, male Star Wars fan anymore. Seriously, fuck this fandom.
And, FYI, we JUST had an OP white male protagonist in the Jedi Survivor game. So it’s not like we as a group are ignored by SW…
I've played a lot of RPGs over the years - mostly tabletop but some video. It seems to me there are two basic types of gamers: those who enjoy the opportunity to play somebody else, to see the world from a different perspective; and those who only want a super-powered fantasy version of themselves.
I think this reflects their overall outlook on life. The former are open to new ideas and generally empathetic toward others, while the latter are fundamentally insecure and feel compelled to puff up their self-image or put others down.
Also, what is it with “geek yt review channels” like Nerdrotic, Critical Drinker, and Geeks + Gamers who become more and more right-wing racist, sexist assholes who spend their entire lives hating on everything? Is it a trend or something?
I'm not interested in racist ‘Opinions' based on the fact that so many games are so customisable. One can not only be a white man, but a woman in a game, certainly one that isn't caucasian: or even human . Just ask the Eastern person known as ‘Thamriyell' he plays a catgirl in the social game VR Chat.
Sometimes one with dark skin.
…oh, and Disney are already out of fucks, o racists: guess what they've just greenlit: a “Little Mermaid” animated series.
Guess which Ariel they're using…!

Personally speaking, I'm happy to play as whatever race or gender the devs give me, if it's a game where there's no character creation and the protagonist has a well-developed personality of their own.
On the other hand, if the protagonist is a blank slate that you can customize, I'll admit to generally using those games as power fantasies, up to and including making the hero a version of me that's barely changed except to be idealized (see: Skyrim). But many of those games generally encourage you to do that in the first place.

I've played mostly D&D, where I have enjoyed opportunities to try out different alignments, races and backgrounds, trying to see things from very different perspectives. Even in games where a personality is pre-set you often have in-game choices to make, and it's interesting to save the game and try out the various responses to see how they change the course of play.

My actual D&D experiences have been limited (time constraints and whatnot), but when I have gotten to play, I was always Neutral Good. I just can't be otherwise when it's a character I've invested so much of my energies into creating and playing.
So, a character’s ethnicity is enough to make you stop enjoying a work? What a pity it’s to think like you.

In games with morality system I played to (Bioshock, Fallout 4, Hitman, Dishonored), I can’t bring myself to be a scumbag.
"I’m already out.”
Well, BYE!

I have the opposite outlook, I usually create characters that wholely different from me, largely because I frankly don’t feel comfortable putting myself in the game but also I like playing games through different distinct individuals
@Timjer , @Thanos6 & @JeanP : In D&D particularly over the last few years there has been intense debate over redefining nonhuman intelligent creatures heretofore just regarded as "evil," such as orcs and kobolds. The new line is that they're often labeled "evil" because they're competing for the same resources as humanoid communities while living under vastly different social systems. It's now easier to play them as characters without falling into the "I'm evil, so I have to be bad" mindset.

And he does it again when the trailer starts. Right after the character, Kay Vess, does a voiceover, he says, “oh I’m already out - female voiceover” like he hadn’t just said that before the trailer started.
Dude, we get it. You hate women and especially women of color. We understand. Now go back to your game room, wherever it is, and stay there.
And the thing is, he probably believes that we really give a shit what he thinks. Guess what, dude, we don’t…

Yes, I'm aware. Even back when I did have time to play, our DM ignored “species as alignment.” In D&D I don't care too much which species I play, as long as I can be NG.
(In single-player video games I enjoy playing idealized me. But in D&D where I'm playing with other actual people, I'm more likely to play something else, because the interactions make roleplaying more fun.)
In games with choices I usually play an element of something I'm not. A woman, black, devoutly religious, gay... when it's an option I almost always play non-human characters. And in its limited way my experience of the world grows as I see the difference in how I'm received.
The experiences I've had making female avatars in MMORPG like City Of Heroes, damn that's an eye opener into the bare minimum of what bullshit women deal with online.
... Tough to commit to the full douchebag route, though.
Confused?
