Peters told Gaines and Weekes that the U.S. “hasn’t seen a violent insurrection yet,” and told them that “if everybody that was in Washington on January 6 brought guns and really wanted to overthrow the government” they would have succeeded

Peters falsely claimed that the violent, armed mob that stormed the Capitol was “peaceful” until they were “provoked by agent provocateurs.” In response, co-host Walter Weekes said that if the crowd was armed with guns it would have been used as an excuse to confiscate Americans’ firearms

“And it’s comin, by the way,” Weekes added

“Okay. Yeah. It is coming. Until it’s not a one-off, but it becomes a national mantra that we’re not giving up our guns,” Peters said. “Like, if the feds come for my guns, I’m gonna shoot the feds. ‘Kay? And I’m going to die in a hail of gunfire. Because I’m not giving up my guns. Are you?”

Peters went on to say that if he’s a “one-off,” then the headlines would read “Crazy white guy, white nationalist, Nazi-sympathizing, Hitler-praising, far-right shock jock Stew Peters dies in hail of gunfire with the FBI”

But he said that if everyone else refuses to give up their guns, “then we become a formidable opponent to an infiltrated and weaponized Department of Justice and law enforcement apparatus that has openly declared war on the American people”

Peters also chastised people in the Rumble chat who thought this sounded “crazy”

If y’all had brought your guns in and started shooting, the army would’ve come to deal with you and then you really would’ve gotten your asses whooped.

It's my personal opinion that a lot of people who buy guns, especially overpowered guns like the AR-15, are cowards at heart, and will surrender their weapons rather than "die in a hail of gunfire."

Even if you were smart enough to shoot down any drone coming your way while attempting to mow down the fucking US Army (which I doubt), snipers can still do you in by shooting that hot-air chamber you call a skull.

While I HIGHLY doubt the gun nuts are “brave” enough to choose to "die in a hail of gunfire" (and if they did, snipers and drones exist), I still don’t get American Gun Culture, TBH. I mean, afaik NOWHERE else in the world are firearms fetishized(*) SO much that people would rather start a civil war with countless deaths than allow for any regulations whatsoever.

What’s even the POINT of owning dozens of military-grade assault rifles? They don’t offer any more defense than a decent, regulated revolver does and they only cause thousands of pointless deaths each year…

From what I understand (and this is coming from an outsider’s perspective too), this gun fetishism has its roots in the extremely warped relationship of many Americans with both their own government and the concept of individual freedom. For many, the government is always evil, at least if it is not aligning with their favorite party, though strangely enough they will still talk badly about the concept of government and the state while praising their favorite party/politician in power, as if they were separate from each other. Taxes especially are viewed only in the sense of “taking away from me” than “giving to the community I am part of”, since the gun nuts see their own individual freedom and wealth as paramount, even if it comes at the expense of everyone else (and often the concept of equality guaranteed by the government is anathema to them too). They really believe that having so many weapons will protect them (somehow) from outside interference to their (often right-wing, christo-fascist) worldview and way of life, especially from potentially “liberal” governments and people. In unfortunately many cases they also believe that they can uphold some form of pseudo-segregation and oppression at least in their immediate surroundings using guns.
Having a gun has become a sort of symbol of being “free”, of being able to secure yourself from having to adapt to changing circumstances and do whatever you want if push comes to shove to people you don’t like. It is similar in that regard to the false symbol of cars as the ultimate expression of freedom of mobility (which is why it is so hard to get US cities to be structured for the needs of pedestrians or bikers). Hyperindividualism in a late stage capitalist society at its finest.

I think it's also influenced by our romantic view of the Old West, when heroic and independent pioneers fought Red Indians, cattle rustlers, and bandits to tame the wild frontier.

Comes from watching waaaay too many tv westerns and movies.

Stew needs to be on a watchlist. And who wants to bet he wouldn't show up to any insurrection as plausible deniability?

All of what y’all said, plus a lot of them have fantasies of living in a post-apocalyptic world where they’ll need their guns to hunt and fend off anybody who shows up. Like @Sasha said, it’s totally influenced by our romanticized view of the American Old West plus some Mad Max and Rambo shit thrown in.

Also, from what I’ve read these dudes saying, they mostly seem like they’ve got the maturity of 13 year olds at most.

I hope not, but it'd become what is best described as a self-fulfilled prophecy. It happened before with some who decided to shoot at the police instead of cooperating when approached for valid reasons. Including some in the extremist anti-government Patriot Movement. Of course, fantasy or not, loss or facing the law is always the persecution of martyrs for terrorist propaganda pushing for more conflict. You're saying yourself that you will not cooperate if for national security reasons you cannot be armed. You are known to foment conflict and like holocaust deniers who hope for future crimes against humanity to repeat themselves, you're pushing the disinformation that a coup attempt was only a peaceful protest, while calling for more violent future attempts...
