She didn’t beat the brat, she slapped him. And the brat SHOT her pet cat. A slap never hurt anybody.

What I find more amazing is the fact that in the same story, the kid’s brother flatout verbally torn into him for doing this in the first place and the clear indication that what this kid did was a bad thing
I’m usually don’t suggest hitting kids, due to me not thinking that would do anything constructive but I still believe punishing a kid for doing something bad… like shooting a old cat with a bb gun for instance, probably not a slap but definitely will take them to their parents and tell them what they did after I get ahold of my cat to make sure they were ok.
You’re the real psycho here, Maize. Seriously, I don’t care if it’s a kid or a disabled person or whatever, but if you shoot at our dog for no reason, then I’m gonna beat your sick ass.

Went on Reddit, the OP’s schtick is parents-bad/children-good. Between that and the necrotrolling threads, I'm not sure if the OP is working out their trauma on AITA, or if they're just in it for lulz.
I’m not pro-slapping-kids. I’m not pro-killing-pets either. Both are wrong, but the second is much more wrong.
I’m not sure how I’d react to this situation in-person. Telling the adult person (parent?) not to hit kids could come off as being either appropriate or inappropriate, depending on the circumstances and the observer - it’s a very understandable but wrong reaction to a very messed-up situation, is what I’m saying. But the OP’s reaction is ridiculously over-the-top to the point of being very definitely inappropriate, and if not meant in a hyperbolic fashion, psychotic as well.
My family got a cat when I was I think about 7 or 8 years old, and she lived for over 20 years. If I had been 20-something and had seen an 11-year-old kid SHOOT her? I’m seriously not a violent person, but that kid would have been LUCKY to come away with just a slap.

Story on Reddit: The guy was sitting a friend's brother so the brother could finish an art project. He let the kid use his old BB gun to target shoot. Kid asks for some water; dumb ass sitter goes to get water, leaving kid in possession of BB gun; kid shoots elderly, sunbathing cat—who was stung but undamaged otherwise—then gives DAS a “whatchu gonna do about it?” grin.

The great thing about assuming the worst of every situation is that you can learn to be glad to be wrong. I’m glad I’m wrong. Doesn’t really lower the “larval serial killer” flag for the kid, though. Intentionally distracting his supervision to hurt that cat shows premeditation and specific knowledge his actions were wrong. I’m not one to endorse physical punishment but that’s definitely more than “go to your room” territory. That kid needs to be assessed by a psychiatrist at the very least. Maybe a stay in juvie to set him straight.
I had a pellet gun when I was young and liked target shooting. I also had supervision. A highly *abusive* supervisor but frankly when you’re handling something that can injure and potentially kill that’s far better than not being supervised.

Oh, yes, the kid was premeditating, and honestly smarter than the sitter. You don't leave a weapon and a kid unattended while going into the house for a minute.
The way things were when I was a child was one extreme, this is the other of to hit or not to hit. Because I know we would have received a quick spank for pulling the 🐈 tail as kids - but not do it again.
Also what the others said about a boy that age having a gun.
