I’m not arguing vaccines are a bad idea. I think they’re a good thing, but I think the parents should have some input. The state doesn’t own your children. Parents own the children , and it is an issue of freedom.

NO, PARENTS DO NOT OWN THEIR CHILDREN! NOR DO THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO WHATEVER THEY WANT TO THEIR CHILDREN! ON THE CONTRARY, IT IS THEIR UTMOST DUTY AND RESPONSIBILITY TO LOVE, NURTURE, PROTECT AND OTHERWISE SUPPORT THEM AS BEST AS THEY CAN, AND “PARENTS” WHO REFUSE TO DO SO ARE BELOW SCUM AND UNWORTHY OF PARENTHOOD! WHAT THE BLOODY HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU, YOU VILE PSYCHOPATH?!?!?
Children are a parent’s responsibility but nobody’s property.
What say you about your next door neighbour purchasing an object that releases deadly radiation in all directions and wheeling it all around the block? Unlike a child it actually is their property and though the radiation spreads as far as the interior of your home and lingers everywhere it has been remaining dangerous for years to come it is not actually physically on your property. Your neighbour insists they are not at all concerned about the radiation and if you are then you can just buy yourself a radiation suit, line your home with lead, or move away to a strictly controlled environment but what he does is his own business and not your place to tell him otherwise.
What then of the “freedom” to infringe upon the health and safety of others for no other reason than “it’s my decision” Rand? Does radiation differ in your mind and to your libertarian views from transmissible viruses that put at risk those who cannot be vaccinated and whose lives depend on herd immunity? Those whose only other option would be to give up a normal life to live in controlled environments? Assuming of course as libertarians are strangely prone to assume that all people have an infinite amount of income that wouldn’t be impacted by completely cutting themselves off from the outside world for years.
What of the even more basic issue of the child having no say in the matter because their rights are determined by you, the parent who sees himself as the owner of another human being? How do you reconcile that with your demand that nobody can impose restrictions or requirements upon you even when your actions have consequences for others because it infringes on your rights which are absolute? Is you “knowing better” an appropriate excuse for determining whether they live or die? Does their living under your roof and being supported by your finances mean they must obey your rules with no right to object without facing ejection or punishment? You live under a much bigger roof and taxes pay for more than you would ever care to admit let alone be grateful for. The infrastructure of cities and even the intangible framework of law has a cost and no matter how self sufficient you think you are you benefit directly from them, and many other things you do not choose to interact directly with.
Parents DON’T own their children. It’s rather the children that own their parents. Parents are responsible for the children, for making sure that they are cared for in the best way possible. Risking their lives and their health does NOT come under Best Care Possible.
It’s not about freedom. It’s about the Best Interest of the Child. And the best interest is to STAY ALIVE, dumbass!
When I was young, it wasn’t clear whether I had had rubella or not (I only had one spot on the forehead, and it could have been something else). When it was offered in school, when I was 13 or so, I decided to get vaccinated against it. If a woman gets it when she’s pregnant, the fetus might develop hearing disabilities. My parents were (of course, as they are decent and educated) completely behind my decision. My father trained as a nurse to become a psychologist, and I could get actual medical advice from him.
Oh, so you want the kids to DIE, of easily preventable diseases. I wish I had the power to send you back to the old days, when they frequently did and infant mortality levels were ATROCIOUS, or maybe you would expire from an infected scratch.
Confused?
