Last month, at a far-right conference, Christian nationalist author Stephen Wolfe denounced the term “Judeo-Christian” as an “utter subversion” that should be “eradicated from our thinking.” He also claimed that, in a “Christian nation,” Jews would be “tolerated” but actions that “undermine” the “Christian nature of the nation” would not

Wolfe made the remarks during a panel discussion titled “Christian Nationalism, Women in Politics, & Jewish Influence on American Society,” which included Christian nationalist pastor Joel Webbon

After Webbon spoke, claiming that “Talmudic Judaism is uniquely hostile to Christian faith and to Christ,” Wolfe took the microphone next. Wolfe said that Christians should “reflect on this idea of Judeo-Christianity or Judeo-Christian worldview” and “eradicate that from our thinking”

He explained that “if we say that America’s a Judeo-Christian country then it can’t be a Christian country,” adding that a “Judeo-Christian ethic” is merely a “code” for a “universalist” belief that anyone can be here if they “just abide by these proceduralist or modern liberal rules”

Wolfe went on to say that he’s often asked what he would “do about the Jews” if we actually had a “Christian country”

“And I’m thinking, ‘Well, they were doing quite fine when we had a Christian country,'” he said. “So I mean it’s weird. It’s not as if they’re kicked out or expelled. It’s just that this is a Christian country and you are tolerated here, and yet we would not tolerate any action that would undermine that Christian nature of the nation”

Wolfe concluded by referring to the term “Judeo-Christian” as “an utter subversion”

“It’s a subversion of Protestant tolerance,” he said, “into a universalistic, non-Christian, human tolerance, which is not historically what we’ve been in this country. Historically it’s been a very tolerant, Protestant country. But yeah it’s an utter subversion. And so when you think of ‘Judeo-Christian,’ you’re being subverted”
