For an author, you think he'd be able to string a few sentences together with a level of consistency. Granted no one said he was a "good" author...

He claims there was no Satanic Panic. Then he claims that it was a psyop, meaning that not only did it exist it was well documented, had thousands involved, and was pushed by the media, so even if the root cause wasn't "really" people being worried about Satanic influences on the youth it was a thing.

And I'm not sure what sort of claim he is making as to why society sucks "now" because "the boomers fell for it." Does Jon believ that there was a large Satanic cult pulling the strings and being generally terrible, but because it was handled so terribly people don't believe in religion as much now? Does he think that the panic was faked, drawing attention away from the "real" evil Satanic cult doing nefarious things? Or does he think that there just wasn't a panic... at all? Cause that's just completely untrue.

I'm fairly positive he is one who believes that all the claims made in the Satanic Panic are true... elites doing evil rituals, cannibalism, crazy sex stuff, etc, so not sure why he'd be against all the claims that laid the groundwork for his current delusions.

Before, there was Iron Maiden’s “The Number of the Beast” album: very much part of that Satanic Panic for obvious reasons. Since then: from their next album “Piece of Mind”, their new drummer.

The fact that Nicko McBrain is a Christian must send you into a panic due to his continued presence in the world’s hardest working Heavy Metal band representing quite the opinion-destroying paradox for you, OP.

The satanic panic ruined the lives of multiple people. This is just the most famous example. Go fuck yourself.

I remember the Satanic Panic very well. I remember how my parents (an atheist married to a conservative Christian) both condemned it with equal scorn. And I remember conversations with my friend the Lutheran minister and my uncle the Unitarian minister who both explained, with great passion, that this was not true Christianity.

It was never "a mainstream media psyop"; it was a publicity campaign started by Christian fundies to (1) stamp out supposed Satanists, (2) garner publicity, and (3) scare the public back to church. It died out because it had no basis in fact, and in the end backfired when the public realized the whole phenomenon was nothing but lies and character assassination. And it certainly contributed to the decay of American Christianity.

How could the satanic panic be faked? There are sites like jesus-is-savior.com, demonbusters.com, etc. which prove that it is still happening and has happened!

So, when i first enlisted in the Navy, there was a weird attitude towards drugs. If it didn’t affect your job, no one cared, not really. They mostly saw it like alcohol, and if you could control your intake or at least do your job hung over, it was no one’s business.
But i remember the Satanic Panic. If you worshiped anything but mainstream Christainity, there were people who made you justify it before letting you continue through whatever pipeline you were in.
There were a lot of fundy sailors who thought that you just couldn’t BE a sailor if you didn’t love Jesus. And also figured that worship of Allah or Wicca was just Satan in disguise.
I was told i couldn’t get a security clearance if i was an atheist or played D&D. I asked to see that in writing. Wasn’t even a full year into the service and i already knew to look under the skirts for the basis or the bluster.
But, yeah, it was real. It was everybody’s business. It was crucial to keep gays and child molesters out of the showers.
One chief made us all recite the Lord’s Prayer, because satanworshipers would rather die than to that.

I pretended to roll dice and ‘made my save’ against the Lordy Prayer. Got to talk to SO many people.
I’m not as funny as i think i am. Apparently.

It’s kinda fascinating and sad at the same time, how so many right wing fundies unironcially love Star Trek as if it’s made for them specifically, when TOS and Rodenberry alone were very “woke” for their time… Makes me wish sometmies I could jump on an Enterpise and leave this shithole behind; “Make it so, Number One. Engage.”

Hell, speaking of Stewart, there’s a reason he specifically has a trope named after him in TvTropes; the “Patrick Stewart Speech”.

Anyway, I could go on and on about how ST is the exact antithesis of modern day far-right-wing mentalities. And I’m not even that much of a hardcore trekkie! Klingons killed their own dishonorable gods; Ferengi see no profit in discrimination; Vulcans see it all as ‘illogical’… Hell, even the Borg see no practical purpose in most of our shit.

There’s a reason why conservatives love the earlier Star Treks. The various series focus almost entirely on Starfleet, which is very militaristic and hierarchical in an “everyone knows their place” sort of way. Classic Trek and Next Generation had no women directly on the command track; Doctor Beverly Crusher was the highest-ranking woman on either series and if she’s running the ship, something has gone horribly wrong. Likewise, the upper ranks were mostly white men (and Spock was essentially white, even if human concepts of race don’t necessarily apply to Vulcans) (plus Data was white in a more literal sense than usual). Also the early seasons of Next-Gen were subtly regressive in some ways, due to a mix of executive meddling and Roddenberry being a bit behind the times (he may have been pretty liberal by 1960s standards, but hadn’t quite kept pace with liberals in general in the 1980s). Deep Space Nine *did* put a Black Man in charge, but despite technically the second-in-command being a woman, she was non-starfleet and mostly there for diplomatic reasons and did little actual commanding. Star Trek Voyager… well, let’s just say that conservatives skipped that one. I don’t think they really watched anything much after Voyager either, because at that point it started getting a bit too “woke” for them.

I get what you’re saying, and I know “misaimed fandom” is a trope as well, but it still seems like intentional doublethink by the conservatives to me; cherry picking the few rightist elements from the older times in old Trek and think that’s what it’s currently all about. I mean, it’s like watching the Star Wars saga and thinking it’s all about Fascism and Tyranny being a GOOD form of government. I mean, sure, such dishonest dumbasses exist in real life, and the Empire did a FEW things better than the Republic that came before, but it’s still the exact opposite message the story is about!

not actually true. In the episode Thine Own Self ( https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Thine_Own_Self_(episode) ) Dr. Beverly Crusher is actually shown to be running the ship on a night shift completly outside of any emergency, which inspires Deana Troy to actually undergo the Bridge Officers test so she also can take command under regular circumstances (that’s that episodes B-Plot).

And in the pilot for the Classic Trek, The Cage ( https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/The_Cage_(episode) ) the first officer was supposed to be a woman, the Network just didn’t like that, so it didn’t got carried over into the regular series.

So for Lil’ Jonny here, a case of ‘Did Not Do The Research’: or he wouldn’t have used that scene from “Star Trek: First Contact” with that actor if he knew about him and his background. He didn’t. I do: and not just the fact Sir Patrick Stewart’s a fellow Yorkshireman.

He’s a member of the centre-left Labour Party: he supports their leader & PM Sir Keir Starmer: head of a party with so many LGBT MPs. Stewart’s a feminist. And an Atheist.

It’s as if conservatives loved “Blade Runner” and “Turn A Gundam” due to certain aspects of such. But not knowing one simple fact:

He who - via that starring Harrison Ford - basically visualised Cyberpunk as we know it today, and the last series by Sunrise using cel animation before they switched to CGI from “Gundam SEED” onwards featured his mecha designs including the eponymous Gundam: Syd Mead.
