Clooney got more publicity for politics than he did for his very few, and totally mediocre, movies. He wasn’t a movie star at all, he was just an average guy who complained, constantly, about common sense in politics.
Good grief…Trump always does this, if some actor or some kind of celebrity says bad things about him, then he invariably responds by belittling their talents and their work. I complained here before about him talking shit about Stephen Colbert, but this one is even worse. “Not a movie star at all”? Ummm…he’s like one of the biggest movie stars of all time! Here:

Throughout his career he received numerous accolades including two Academy Awards, a BAFTA Award, four Golden Globe Awards, and four Screen Actors Guild Awards as well as nominations for three Emmy Awards and a Tony Award
It is possible to not like someone, not like their politics, but still acknowledge that they were obviously a big star. Like just because I know Hulk Hogan was a Republican, and also a well-documented liar, and apparently kind of an asshole if the stories are to be believed, I aint gonna deny he was maybe THE biggest star in pro wrestling of all time. In fact I’ll even say he was a better “worker” than he’s often given credit for.
