But the thing is… I am in American and my life is better today than under Trump… the only ways it’s worse are the result of Trump’s presidency and the Trumpies in places like the Supreme Court getting emboldened by him… and I’m an American, born and bred.

Fixed: If Trump really manages to become Emperor of Gilead (or perhaps even president of the US, if not that), democracy and freedoms will suffer in general. The illegal alien panic is just an excuse among many others, fear mongering to divide and conquer. Some elites will enjoy their increased power, until it falls due to its corruption and abuses. Putin will be glad for the US to fall, too.

That Wikipedia article is not exactly right. I mean, he’s definitely below average but his ending of reconstruction is a root of massive problems today. Unfortunately there was a period of time where history books were written saying that reconstruction was a terrible thing and it wasn’t - it was the racial reparations and societal healing that we needed. And Hayes ended it on behalf of the extremely racist white governors who wanted things to go back to the way they were. So they agreed to let him be president even though he didn’t win the popular vote if he ended it.
So while that article may not rate him as the 3rd worst (tied with Jackson), quite a few people do.

Exactly! Ugh, yeah there are real tough ones to be related to. But yeah, like you said, we’re not responsible for what they did.
In middle school I knew a girl who was related to Lee. She was proud of it. We weren’t friends.
