I just can’t get past Wendy Carlos’ first hormone treatment. The doctor gave her estrogen. It relaxed her so much she thought he was giving her tranquilizers.

You don’t care about the actual science behind transsexuality or transgenderism, you don’t care about “protecting” anyone from gender reassignment surgery or similar stuff, you don’t care about transhumanism or the legal or psychological or political ramifications. In one film, a man is reduced to just a brain, face & oesophagus. In another manga/anime/film scenario, a woman is nothing more than a brain.
Does that make Murphy/RoboCop and Major Motoko Kusanagi any the less human ...?!
In the former - especially the sequel - he realises that he can no longer be a man to his now remarried wife. In the latter, those like the Major can swap brains with others: and not just those of the same gender.
