Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.
You, LORD, will keep us, protecting us from this generation forever.
Oh heavens, a look at the Hebrew shows that they’re all wrong, at least from a strictly grammatical viewpoint. Both (i.e all of those in Brother David’s rant) are interpretations. But whatever, Brother David’s conclusions are as wrong as wrong can be.
“Thou shalt keep them”: this is correct, however the “them” is masculine plural. But “the words” from the previous verse are feminine plural. That doesn’t match, but it has to match. That’s like saying in English “He’s a nice guy, I love her”. It doesn’t work. But, in verse 5 poor and needy people are mentioned, in masculine plural, so grammatically the “them” in verse 7 has to refer to those poor and needy people.
“Protecting us”: here the “us” is correct, according to the Hebrew original.
It’s an abrupt change of direct object and might be the reason the KJV chose “them” for both cases and the other translations “us” for both. Those choices were probably for logical continuity, but they’re all incorrect as far as the Hebrew grammar is concerned. And David’s equalization of the gender neutral “them” in English shows his total ignorance of Hebrew and the importance of being able to look at the originals before opening one’s big trap.
I don't agree with all of his theological positions
Huh? Doesn’t that mean he’s on the fast track to Hell for eternal damnation?
