Last year my mom, who's old enough that her senses are deteriorating somewhat, accidentally turned on her gas stove without igniting it. Fortunately that was a weekend I was due to visit, and I came in to a loud hissing and strong smell of gas just as she was drifting off to sleep. She could not hear or smell the gas. Had I arrived an hour later she would've been dead. Since then she has switched to an electric stove - and no longer risks setting her sleeve on fire when she reaches for a rear burner either.
And so Natalie, on behalf of my mom, go suck on a gas pipe.
