Having taken two income tax classes in law school I can tell you that any type of "compensation" you receive is taxable. Even if you barter and receive chickens, your profit in chickens is taxable. It’s this thing called capitalism. It rewards people who already have money with more money while everyone else is stuck scrambling.

One thing we could start with is universal healthcare - you know, so people don’t lose their homes if they get sick and/or injured. Then we can build on that with things like universal basic income, rent caps, expanding food stamps, and revamping of the meanings of ‘affordable’ and ‘low-income’ housing. And there’s so much to do beyond that but I think that’s a least a start.
