and it’s pathetic

Even if the toddler in question was fake coughing instead of coughing for real, why would you think they are pathetic?
Because even as a toddler they dislike people casually poisoning the air they breathe? They are shaming someone who is slowly killing themself? They are drawing attention to the person who is making the sidewalk stink?
Like even if the stink and poison don't actually make them cough, why would any of those reasons be pathetic?
Oh no someone disapproves of your choices!!! What ever will you do?
That’s life, dude. People are allowed to disagree with you. They’re allowed to think what you’re doing is stupid. They’re also allowed to fucking cough when you blow literal poison into the air around them.
I’ve smoked cigarettes for like 30 years now. I’m old enough to remember stuff from even before I ever thought of smoking, like even fast food restaurants having ashtrays at every table, and seeing cigarette vending machines in bowling alleys and bars and such places. And ya know….it kinda did piss me off for while, like when my state passed a law that said you couldn’t smoke in a bar. But, hey, I’m all okay with that now. I get it, it just aint good for you or the people around you.
Now excuse me while I go outside and smoke my last cig of the night LOL
PS. You're probably just a pencil necked geek anyway

Oh, good. You outsmarted a toddler.
AND picked a fight with him!
You must be so proud.
My dad smoked when i was a kid. Half my command at boot camp did, and sub school, and missiles school, and my first boat. My third boat was only smoking in smoking areas and i didn’t performatively cough, i just told people not to smoke outside the areas. And if they did, i called away a fire. Whole command got to come see this idiot that got everyone woken up. Take the toddler and be glad, moron.
Going to point out that due to the square-cube law, toddlers’ lungs have a lot less internal surface area in proportion to their size… so unless there’s a flaw in my line of thinking, it would take less smoke to irritate them than it would an adult. Even if that’s wrong, then while it’s possible for some people to get used to it or learn to automatically breathe more shallowly if they can’t, you’d expect that most toddlers haven’t had enough exposure to do either of those yet. Also you might not notice the ones who don’t react, so it’s at least partly a case of confirmation bias if so.
When I was about 10, my parents and I were walking around downtown. We passed by a smoker who just happened to flick his ashes right then, and I got a lit ash in my eye. I was screaming because it hurt so bad and my parents rushed me to the nearest sink where we could rinse my eye. I’m guessing dude would’ve thought that was performative too.
That reminds me of evil child beaters who claim that when they react to beatings it's out of rebellion, so deserve more, for their own salvation. This is less dramatic, but still excuses to deny harm, science and justify the disregard of other people. It's not difficult, if you don't have the resolve to cure your own addiction or quit, at least have the respect to smoke elsewhere? In this case, it seems, the denial is such that the person isn't even accepting yet that they're self-harming. Not ready to face reality. If it's a troll for the industry, which is not impossible, someone is laughing while we're blaming it on one stupid.
Confused?
