1) perhaps god is sending a fucking message as people who claim to worship him forgot to be good stewards of the earth. Let's pretend there is a god. And yours to boot, he would have had people learn and become experts to help others. You choose not to listen to experts which reminds me of a story of a priest in flood. Others offered help. A helicopter, a boat, a raft. He declined each. He drowned. He asks god why god didn't send help. God points out he sent boat, raft, helicopter.
